I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Thanks so much ADLM. Dr. Brett did contact me today.  He sounds really nice.  Did he treat you individually or as part of the trial?  You still have to pay the full price, even as a participant in the trial?  It is going to be a 4-hour drive every month, but worth it if he can help.

No problem Starshine,

You see him individually but it's part of the trial. All fees and medication fees would have to be paid for.

hel

sorry it is not Aquovel but Apoquel ..

Wow it's awesome reading this discussion. Just curious what's the price range?

For 60 tablets it's $2830 , not peanuts by any means.

None at all... Thought this is helpful. About 3 weeks I've read what contains xeljanz and there's another medication that have similar components. Yes, I decided to take it and the results after weeks are as follows, my entire face is growing black along with white ones. And just yesterday my eye lashes are also growning.

Hey, I was wondering after reading your post. What medication is this? I was looking for something like that.

What is the other medication?

@dj88.... Diclofenac sodium. It's basocally an anti- inflamatory medication just like XELJANZ . Now, what I've read so far a few times and I understood the best way I can is that this pill was the first original medication for arthritis before XELJANZ . Now maybe it's not as strong which I don't think but it doesn't mean it won't work. I'm willing to try it, especially because there's no side effects. This is my 4th week and the only thing I feel different is more sleepy and tire at the end of the day.

I do not recommend you  self experiment with other drugs for your own safety .

Agree my UCSF Derm started me in xeljanz.
