I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

It appears who begin whit 2 pills had more fast curation but then is having these little alopeci areas ...can be the immunologic system had been shocked begin whit 2 pills and no whit 1 ...of course can be also no so.

Sorrry for my English.

Have you begun in first month whit 2 or 1 pilss???
It's been about three weeks since i visited Dr.King for my first appointment back in November, and my Xeljanz finally came in the mail!! Im so excited! I will be taking my first pill tomorrow morning. I really hope it goes well for me.

Im supposed to take two pills a day, if i take one tomorrow morning at around 8:00 am, is 8:00 pm a good time to take the second pill? Also, is xeljanz ok to take on an empty stomach.

what i've been doing is taking one pill at 9 am  another at 9pm  both on empty stomach , ive read in general taking medicaments with no food leads to faster absorption , otherwise the absorption is delayed .anyways in the long run the amount your body absorbs should  be  the same. this is what ive read in  some papers. however yesterday marked  my first  week on xeljanz and no even a tiny single white hair has grown . if those with good results could post here whether they were taking food and also their times that could be of great value for those starting  , perhaps it's correlated somehow...

Your times don't matter, just take one in the morning and one in the evening. You can take it on an empty stomach or with food. Look for results in about a MONTH. Have faith, IT WORKS if your alopecia is autoimmune related.

Do dottor King said you to begin whit 2 pills no whit only 1 pill?

Yes, he said to begin with two 5mg pills each day. One pill is most likely not enough to start growth.

In light of recent publications on topical JAK inhibitor cream, has anyone seeing Dr. King inquired if this is something that can be formulated in a compounding pharmacy? One publications states that JAK inhibitors were dissolved in DMSO and used at 2 to 3% concentration, while more recent publication states that twice daily 0.6% cream was used. I wonder if someone can ask Dr. King for the actual recipe that was used in his experiment.

Yes that it can be done at a compounding pharmacy. No I didn't ask him for a specific formulation. Also not sure if you would need a prescription for the compounding procedure itself (would imagine you do).
