Xeljanz (Tofacitinib Citrate): My experience on the trial
I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.
I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.
Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.
The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.
I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Its half price in Canada- not sure if thats any help... My dr tried to apply for 'compassionate release' from phizer- they refused, but maybe you'll be luckier...

I did try going directly to phizer. They refuse to help unless your doctor fills out a form stating it is for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis only, with proof that you have RA. Any form of AA is denied. This might be of help to anyone with RA.

I have been looking for a Canadian mail order pharmacy that carries it so I can order it that way and have it be cheaper.

Do you know of any Canadian mail order pharmacies that carry it? I contacted Canada Drugs, and they don't have it.

I was thinking the same thing about switching insurances....not sure though because of the fact that I already have the complaint process started.

I had a look at these online pharmacies from canada and they are very very cheap compared to what I am paying for it.
Have you guys tried ordering from them?
I would remain sceptical of these pills being the real deal until someone can verify it.

Just a small update,
I have found some semi-terminal black hairs on my head about half a dozen formed in a small cluster. Scientifically the next hair cycle in the patch should grow a stronger if not fully terminal hair.
My top eyelashes have completely regrown back and my bottom lashes are coming in faster compared to everywhere else.
98% of my regrowth is still vellus though. Hopefully things will pick up sooner rather than later on the current doseage (3 pills a day)
I will continue taking this medication for another full year as I want to find out for myself and for others what Tofacitinib Citrate can really do to help universalis sufferers.
In addition to Tofacitinib I have also been applying minoxidil 5% twice daily and nanogen hair growth factor every night.

That's very good man. You been on Minoxidil for about a month now or almost a month and you got your eyelashes back? That's a great sign. Congrats on the gains!
