I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Nicolas, is this some new treatment? I have translated the article, but still couldn't figure it out. Does is maybe concern steroid injections? Today me derm said that I will be refered to the Medical University Hospital as there are some new treatments available for severe AA. Are there some treatments available in Europe that they have kept a secret??? I find it hard to believe; couldn't find anything on the internet.

it's a antiflammatory and a steroid low ...i think noone new the only difference is the antiflammatory  the doctor is using

4 month update on Xeljanz (2x day):
Hair growing and expanding on head, eyelashes, eyebrows starting and hair all over body coming in. Seems to expand more every day. 33 years AU which means this may work for the most difficult cases. I was prescribed for RA so the fact that it had helped the AU also is great. It has been very affective for both medical issues.

Wonderful news blessing, i'm in au from 19 years, so we are similar :-)...noone important side effect?

I'm so glad to you Blessing you gave us hope, and yes you got it , do you have any photo to you show us your progress

thank you
I don't think a photo will show well yet since they are so short. Will post when I think visibility is better.
No side effects so far!
Wonderful Blessing! I know how happy you must be after being AU for 33 years. Awesome!
Thank you! Very happy! Trying to count the hairs but losing that game! It is a blessing!
Funny! There was a time when we COULD count every hair on our entire body. And the number was 0! That was me for 5 years before Xeljanz.

Any updates on: When will Xeljanz be avaliable treatment for alopecia in Europe?

Hi Flyest I think it has been submitted for the Eu however it's likely to be for the treatment of Arthritis. But I think then atleast doctors might be able to prescribe it off label. Last I read it has been submitted March 16th.
