I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

Thanks, I think that is same one Katiegirl uses. Do you have a phone number handy?

Xeljanzmiracle,I live in central PA and was seeing Dr.Baird from Hershey Medical Center.  I brought up Xeljanz and his response was "I could prescribe this to you but insurance would not cover it and it would cost a lot" So while it wasn't an exact "Yes" I believe he would prescribe it to a patient.

Thanks Ben! Do you have a phone number for him? And can you give all his info to Spring on her discussion about needing a prescription? Thanks SO MUCH!
Katiegirl, I have heard about the 11m time release tablet also. Please let us know what you find out.

Hey guys, it's been about a month since my last post. But here are the pictures I took last week completing my fourth month on xeljanz. The pictures on the top are from before I started xeljanz, and the ones on the bottom are this months. Also, I visited dr. King last month and asked a few questions, the most important being if xeljanz is a long term treatment. Dr.king told me that I will mostly likely continue for a year after my one year mark to ensure that my hair is fully regrown. The goal of this is to hopefully put the alopecia into remission. After that his plan is to reduce the dosage and hopefully stop. But all this is still hypothetical. At the time, he said he had over 170 alopecia patients none of which had any major side effects. As for the topical cream, it didn't really do much for me. However the ironic thing is, the leftmost part of my left eyebrow hasn't grown back, yet all the hair on my head has lol, I thought eyebrows would be the very first things to grow in. Overall my growth has been amazing, and I'm soo happy right now. I can finally go to school without having to wear a wig. I hope the best for all of you in your hair growing journeys, don't give up, xeljanz works miracles in most people, it's only a matter of time.
