I have received a lot of interest from others on here in my involvement with the Xeljanz trials at Yale.

I thought it would be nice for everyone if I documented my progress on here.

Xeljanz is a Jak3 inhibitor and is believed to work with alopecia by turning off the distress signal relayed by the hair follicle to the attacking immune system which is the cause of the hairs falling out. Xeljanz comes in a strength of 5mg per pill and a full box contains 60 tablets. The recommended dosage for arthritis is 1 tablet in the morning and another in the evening each day.

The trial is set in a series of stages and there are requirements before participating. These include monthly visits and blood tests every 2 weeks. Dr Brett King is absolutely fantastic and is an inspiration to me. His positivity and enthusiasm gives me the much needed hope I have craved for over a decade. I have been put on a low dose to start with which is 1 tablet every other day. My dosage has now been increased to 1 tablet every day and next month it could be increased to 2 tablets per day depending on the results.

I have completed my first month and have already noticed my alopecia has stabilised . I have not lost any existing hairs. In addition to this I have seen little hairs growing in my chest area as well as eyebrows. Fingers crossed! To date, I have experienced no side effects.

has anyone heard of Princess of Monaco Caroline. She had alopecia totalis and all her hair grew back. I wonder how.
all experts, where is our hope?we could not take tofa or ruxo forever? what could we do?please help us hopeless people.
Well I think we can take xeljanz forever as long as we are monitored. It's not ideal at all- medically or financially but I prefer it to the alternative. Also remember that once we can push ourselves into remission then we can often go down in dose. It sucks but at least now there are treatments that work. Don't despair- personally I think in the next five years treatment for this will really start expanding and th docs will have more and more success.
Frida what do you think of the YouTube vid?
I don't know - There is always a chance that remission can happen for any of us. Our bodies switch on this attack on our hair and we all have the possibility of natural remission. In this girls case it's pretty amazing after being Au for so long that she has switched back- clearly she reckons it's a miracle. Happy for her, hope it happens for us all but think at this point medication is the best option out there for those of us with significant Aa, Au and At.
you don't have AU why are you complaining?
This...
i really dnt understand why he is complaining

OK - I heard something very uplifting last evening as I was talking to a friend who has been bald most of her life (since middle school)  - now 54 years old. She had all of her old fillings in her teeth replaced and has a full head of hair. Apparently there is a connection to the mercury in the fillings that may have caused her hair loss. Not sure but it seems hopeful as I have a mouth full of old fillings. I am definitely going to look into this more. This is all so new to me and I am terrified.

I did this 10 years ago...
Didn't work for me
