I got an e-mail today inviting me to participate in the National Alopecia Areata Registry. Has anyone else participated?

Hi everyone. It's Joyce. I've got arthritis in my hands. Can I do something with that? It's in both hands. I can hardley do work at what I do for a living. Can I take pills or cream? Also Could I trust people if I wore my wig outside. I've never worn them out in public. As any woman done that? I heard about taking Vitamin E would start it growing. What do you think of that?

Well, eczema isnt curable either, just like alopecia, allergies or asthma- all of which are autoimmune based.

Interesting on the eczema. I've never had it, but my sister had a few bouts with it when she was in her teens.

Hi, I had eczema from when I was 5 to 20 years old. At 20 it was severe all over the body. But today (41) I have a very healthy skin, I love that change;)... no other probs.

I've had asthma and eczema since I was 3 years old and I always wondered if there was a connection to the alopecia. I take Nexium for chronic heartburn, and if that and the alopecia weren't enough 3 months before I turned 40 I became lactose intolerant. I'm wondering what's next.

Patrick- It will manifest different things in different people, since and autoimmune disease, and so is allergies and asthma as well as Rheumatoid arthritis, some or none at all might show up from what I understand. They found arthritis in my feet before alopecia showed up years ago only because someone ran over one of my feet with a golf cart at a factory and I went and had them xrayed. I dont know about my hands, but that pain shows up every now and then. I can definitely make a connection, though. The timing is right on.

I'm 42 now and I don't have any pains. I do have lines on all my nails but I've read that's normal for people with alopecia.

Wow Dave...I too have noticed arthritic symptoms. My lower back started aching as I lost the bulk of my hair and soon after one of my hips started hurting as I walk along with a severely swollen ankle. I saw my doc for all, got x-rays and she sent me off with a clean bill of health. Has anyone else noticed considerable pain for no reason? Thanks
