Truly, mines been progressive in the span of years. When I was active duty military, I used to love getting a haircut, because when they shaved my neck, it felt awesome and would nearly put me to sleep. Eventually, it wasnt quite so enjoyable anymore- it started feeling like someone dragging their nails down a sunburn- it hurt badly. It hasnt been the same ever since. Then, one day, I was getting a haircut and the barber says, "You have got to work on your stress, youve got a lot of little patches of hair missing all over (which Ive never noticed because my hair was always thick and combed over it). Then, I was getting a haircut one day, noone said anything and she handed me the mirror to look at the nape of my neck & back of my head and it startled me- I had a perfect white band 1- 1 1/2 inches wide accross the bottom of my neck, which has always been there ever since. Then, a huge patch of hair 3 inches long (if my memory serves me right) on the left side of my head. Now, over the last few months, I have a perfectly square white block above my left ear- which I also know wont ever change, because all this has happened over 12 years or so. It also sort of maybe explains where that big patch came from, in a way, anyway. Now my hair is falling out faster and my hair is now thin and eyelashes and eyebrows are falling out. I am now 46, so Ive always had decent looking hair all these years, so I wont complain. As to what or why it started, I have no clue- but I have developed allergies, asthma and my hands and feet hurt like arthritis is setting in- so in my philosophy- I can complain, get self pitying and all that, but I wont because I also know theres young children dying of cancer in the hospital every day. Who am I to whine about the haves and have-nots. God has blessed me with a lot, I think I can get along without my hair.

Same for me, Patrick. So I prefer to cope than to hope...bald IS beautyful, isn't it?

Alopecia and false hope go hand in hand. Your hair falls out then it grows back then it falls out again. For me this cycle repeated itself over and over until one day it stopped growing back.

Ditto on Robert's post. There IS hope for sure, though most times it doesn't feel like it. My hair has grown back now and (knock on wood) seems back to normal. But as Robert said, it was HELL at the time (in every sense of the word).

I just want to let you know that there is hope. I went through 6 months of absolute hell with AA, but then my hair started coming back. Check out my blogs. If I can help with any questions or support then just ask.

I thought the same way as Tom, I have thin hair also and I always lost a lot of hair in my brush. One day I had lots in my brush and that was my first spot on the top of my head and I just kind of ignored it until I looked in the mirror at the top of my head and I couldnt figure it out, it looked like a spot of my soaking wet hair was dry and even when i was touching it, it felt weird and a couple mins later I realised exactly what it was. This time I lost my patches in the shower when I pulled my hand out of my hair. I bought screens for the drain originally to block it, but I also use it to monitor my hair loss as well now.

Yeah, mines falling out and is growing back snow white also, and now even that is falling out. Today, my eyebrows started falling out, so I guess we'll see how far things go before I shave it all off.

My hair is like grass. In Winter it falls out, in Summer there is some regrowth. But not all over the head and not green, lol, but snow white. As this year, big bald spots are on the top, I prefer my chilly shape.

When I had mine, it came out in big clumps when I shampooed my hair, but I've always had fine hair and sorta wrote it off as just a normal "your hair comes out every day thing" for some reason 'till I got my hair cut. Had lots of loss.

Honestly, and I dunno if this is common, I feel as if my case had a "slowing down" phase where I lost less hair 'till in stopped. Then I was on a "hold" for about a month where nothing happened then it started to grow back about ten months ago. I hope this is where yours is headed.

My hair fell out either small amounts or one large handful. I noticed when I was under stress or anxiety more hair came out. Mine started in March and I have about 30% loss and it is gradually starting to grow back.
