So I have a question. When (in your experience of course) the hair falls out, is it gradual, or does it come out in large clumps? Because right now, mine is coming out a little at a time. I notice the most hair when I'm taking a bath. I guess it goes down the drain when I take a shower. If I gently pull in the itchy areas of my head, anywhere from 3 to 5 or so come out with it usually. I was wondering if that's how it starts and gets worse, or is that pretty much the pace until it's gone?

Hi, That's what happened to me a long time ago. I couldn't afford any kind of cream or shots. So I just let nature takes it's course. I know very much about how things don't happen with trying to grow hair and it falls out again. I heard someone say if you take vitamin e it grows the follicals cause the dr said they were asleep. It grew some but not the whole head. Well, will get back to you.

Hi Ben!
I have been to a doctor and I did get a steroid cream. It did make my hair grow back in those spots but it just ended up falling out in other spots so I stopped using it. My fiancee and I figure it's best to just let nature take it's course and deal with it day by day. Thanks anyways. I think for now I just need people who know instead of feel sorry. :)

That's horrible, Dave! Employers giving you a hard time, I mean! I think at this point, you need to give your General Manager some literature on Alopecia Areata, so he understands its a medical condition that is NOT CONTAGIOUS -- and the reason I say that is because some ignorant people think that they can "catch" it.

I started losing my hair a few years ago & lately, it's getting faster and growing back white. Now, the white hairs have begun falling out. It's still not bad yet, but it's still progressing. The new areas are over my left ear and I can still cover it, but it seems that once it grows back white, it doesn't get better like before when my hair grew back and went back to my original color. I've said it before, we men don't have it as bad as the women here, some have had to endure some really embarassing issues with alopecia. I overhear comments from time to time, but I'm pretty understanding about it. Once I explain it, most are pretty good about it. A lot of people thinks it's stress related and treat you like a balloon about to pop, and that part I can do without. So I have to explain that it's an autoimmune disease and most are very surprised. Thanks, Alopeciaworld for being here for so many! :o)

Good Morning. I lost my hair in 1975. It's been coming back and then it would fall out again. My family tells me not to wear a wig out in public. don't let it bother me with other peoples thought's. It's alot better, but I just can't. I feel sub-contious. I wish I could though. I buy real hair and fake hair wigs. real hair cost alot. Wish I could find places where they sell real hair wigs cheaper. well everyone have a great day.

well i started to lose my hair when i was about 12 in spots the size of a 50 cent piece they would fall out and then grow back in about 6 yrs ago it really thined out and i barely had enough hair on my haid to cover all the spots then as i was pregnant it thinned out then grew back some and then within 2 weeks of my son being born i was as bald as a que ball and have never had hair on my head again. i did not leave my house for the first yr this happened after a yr my roommate talked me into buying a wig and i did it was ok i liked it i went out ane night and thought everyone could tell it was a wig and so for the last 4 and 1/2 yrs i have stressed and worried about people being able to tell it was a wig and ihave finally decided that i could not strees out about it anymore and now either go bald or wear a bandana on my head and that is it and i feel so much better and i educate people that ask and joke with kids when they ask what happened to myhair , i tellthem if they dont eat healthy fruits and vegetables this will happen to them it is funny their reactions anyways i just want peopl eto know it may seem scary but you need to find what works for you. and dont let fear run your life so to speak like i did . i believe things happen for a reason and i was chosen to have this happen to me and i am learning why maybe to help me face my fears who knows and ways thatg is my story and 2 cents thank you

Welcome Bethany and Christine! The people here are very nice and everyone is totally understanding with what we all are going through. Christine Have you visited a doctor? When I used to have patches I was prescribed a topical cream that worked, although that was when I was in elementary school/middle school. I have had to shave my head since 2000, and I have patches where my hair always grows, which is still odd to me and I wish docs could find out why! Back in 2003 All of my hair grew back for a month and a half, then fell out again leaving the previous patches only. You never know!

Thanks Cynthia. I have noticed how friendly people are here. I wish the world was like this.
I found the one by my hair line this morning. I hardly found it its so small. If it wasnt prickly and itchy I wouldnt of found it.
Im just happy I found this web page. Its been emotionally helpful today. And if I do end up shaving, I will make sure I do my research first.
Thanks for the warm welcome :)
