Hi Prakash and welcome to Alopecia World.

A wet shave with a good three bald razor is the best way for a do it your self shave. Use a hot towel on you head to make the hairs stand out form the skin then apply a good gel. Rub it into the scalp well and then shave against the lie of the hair. Apply a hother hot towel to check for stubble and re apply gel before shaving the final stubble away. Next apply a cold towel adn then dry your head before applying a coating of Aloe Vera, thsi gives you head a really good shine and is very good for the skin.

As a specail treat I go to a local barbers and have a full head and face shave.

There is nothing better!!!

Good luck.

Hello! I am new here. For a few years I had AA on small patches on the back of my head but was mostly covered. I even grew my hair really long 3 years ago, but then 1.5 years ago, i started having a large patch on the top... then it grew back, and last April patches returned. Got bad that I shaved my head a few months after. Last Sept, it seemed the hair was growing back, so I let it grew, but now the patches are even bigger! I had cortisone injections a few times, but they don't seem to work. I see the dermatologist regularly for my skin condition and get UV light treatment. I am sort of resigned to this condition and will probably shave my head all the time. I am looking to meet other Alopecia folk(so I am not alone!), and to exchange tips on shaving. I would imagine other AA folk would know the best ways to shave and make sure the patches aren't too obvious.

Hi there, i'm new to all this, my hair started failing out a few months back, now look like a golf ball. Just realised that there is a name for it by seeing this group. My doctor just said there was nothing that could be done. I'm kinda used to that and i have allways had a short crop, so i guess its not so life chaning as it is for others, if anything im spending less on rasor blades as they last longer. I was wondering how meny people get this condition and what causes it ?

Hi everyone. AA on & off for ~20 yrs. The last 'event' in April of this year was by far the worst as the doc says I lost 60-70% of the hair on my head plus a fair portion of my eyebrows and beard. I shaved my head in late April rather than look like the crypt creature. Some patches grows back while other areas fall out. Right now I seem to be losing my eyelashes and the hair on my chest...the hair on my back has already given up the ghost.

I think that children will love their parents no matter what the parents look like or if the do or don;t have hair. as long as you love them and care for them they will love you back.

They may not mention anything about you having no hair because to them it is just how you are.
