Do they think eczema is connected to alopecia? I have suffered with eczema since I was eight years old. One thing I observed while losing my hair was the eczema dried up, but now it is totally out of control. I have an appointment tomorrow with the dermatologist and I am expecting a miracle.

8 year old daughter haas AA since spring 2009. Eczema since she turned 1. The exzema has been significantly milder to almost none most of the time since the alopecia started. ????

I've found a huge difference in my skin since I've gone gluten and dairy free. My skin is WONDERFUL as long as I don't eat anything with gluten or dairy products. It was my naturopath that recommended trying it. Has done wonders for me! I cheat here and there, but if I don't over do it, my skin beautiful! It's also helped with my asthma!

@amber - aveeno is nice and so is eucerin - they have a whole line of cooling and calming relief with body wash too! :)

Hello all. I am 27 and have eczema. I use and swear by aveeno products. I have had good luck with them. A little pricey, but very gentle. I love and use the lotion with cooling methol. Superb. I also use the gentle body wash itch relief. I am thankful for these products, especially during wintertime.

Dom,

I have done something similar to your Phototherapy - only with UVA. It is known as PUVA. I had done it for Alopecia Areata in 2000, but I have had Eczema all my life as well - and the dermatologist said it might help both. I have to say I grew back all my hair and it lasted eight years, but we can never know whether it is the treatment or the course of AA. I am at about 50% hair loss now, and might consider doing the PUVA again in the fall. It involves taking a drug that makes you photosenstive and I don't want to take it in the summer.

I have had severe atopic dermatitis my whole life - but I have it very well controlled now. I realized I am allergic to the sun, so I don't ever let sun on my skin. I wear sun protective hats and clothing and it helps. I also don't let myself get overheated.

My dermatologist says my severe eczema is related to the a lot of my other health problems: the sun allergy, the Alopecia Areata, I even get eczema herpeticum. Has anyone else gotten that?

Well - it is good to be part of group to share some of our exerpiences.

I have been getting ecsema just under both of my eyes. It gets really red and sore and seems to be raised. It seems to flare up mostly after having a shower, I dont want to use any steriod creams on my face ( I dont like using them at all!!). I have tried lots of things on my face and having cooler, quicker showers. It can get quite embarrassing. Any ideas on how I can stop the stinging sensation and to 'calm' it down a bit.

Hey Sandy,
My cream is called Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP 0.1%
It's Rx only. This worked so well for me that I only had to use a lot for the first two weeks. I used it every time my hands got wet for any reason. Even if I just used a wipe to clean my son's face, I applied the cream after, just because my fingers touched something wet. Now I have no used it for about the last two weeks and I haven't needed it. I'm sure that the eczema will come back over time of not using the cream. Mine is usually bad during a weather change. My hands and fingers peel so bad that I look like a snake shedding its skin.
Good luck with your eczema. Maybe you can ask your Derm about the cream I use.

I have had eczema since I was very young also, but strangely only on the palms of my hands. Weird, I know! lol. But, I also have steroid cream and it works like a charm. Hope everyone is having a nice summer vacation.
xoxo
