Good for you! If its working, "stick" with it! ( no pun intended...I did the shots for four months- ouch is right!) thank you for reinforcing my hope. God-speed...may this be the end of your AU!

Over the past 6 months I've been doing the steroid injections again....ouch! My home treatment is Rogaine 5%, Vitamin D and Biotin.
Not really sure if anything is really helping with the regrowth but I'm not stopping now.

Wow! Jeffrey, that's great news! May I ask if you're under any treatment?

Work in progress here... I was 2 years AU back to AA at about 80% regrowth.

Does anyone know of anyone who had AU that had a full recovery or at least a recovery of head or facial hair?

I live on Long Island and have decided to get my eyebrows and eye liner tattooed. I had a consult with Olga in Roslyn and I liked her very much. Is anyone familiar with her and her work? Does anyone have any advise for me, before doing this?

Hi Diana: The only thing that was strange prior to my hair falling out was that it became very course and dull....this happened about a week or so before it fell out. I didn't experience any physical trauma or accident or surgery. I had never had any kind of hair loss prior to this and have no family history of hair loss or auto immune diseases. For alopecia support I did join the National Alopecia Areata Foundation. They meet once a month and the meetings are very helpful. If you go on the NAAF website, you can find out if there is a group in your area. I've been to three meetings and there is usually about 15 of us, men, women and teens. I hope this helps you... :)

Louise and Tracey my story is the same to very rapid over 2 weeks and complete AU within 2 months mine has been just over 3 years now still feels like yesterday - Louise I notice on yours you also had allergies asthma and eczema is that the same with you Tracy? Did either of you notice anything strange prior to your hair falling out - have either of you had any kind of hair loss when you were younger? Louise I agree with you we do look different, but I also believe we are more self-conscious now that we have something that changes our self image? My family andf friends are all awesome and supportive but still feel very alone as nobody around me has the same disease :(

Thank you for sharing your story, Tracy. I'm sure the day will come when I am comfortable letting more people know, but for now I am still striving to maintain an appearance that resembles my old self. I so appreciate your telling me your experiences and reminding me that I am not alone.

Hi Louise,
My story is the same- very rapid hair loss over 2 weeks and complete AU within 2 months starting in January 2011. It is a roller coaster of emotions still. I live in a very small, close knit waterfront community and summers are all about socializing, BBQs and being outdoors. I started sharing my story with those I felt comfortable with and one of the women asked if she could let a couple of the neighbors know who were concerned about me, we do look like we are going thru chemo--I think for me it was a relief not to have to repeat it over and over. I have made my home my safe place where I can be bald or covered or whatever I feel at that moment. Making that decision and having the support of my family and neighbors has been empowering. AU has gotten easier-- I wouldn't have believed that a year ago, that's not to say there are days I'm mad and sad and having a "pity party" for one. I've been lucky enough to have gotten overwhelming support from my neighbors, and I do think that some people are curious and others really don't know how to deal with it. I have gotten a lot of strength from this site!! Hang in there and know you are not alone. Tracy
