About nail changes, I experienced great weakness in mine; they thinned a lot, and at the begining of my alopecia one fell out (then it grew again)Now they are quite strong, but not so much as when I had hair. My dermatologist told me that hair and nails are strongly connected.
I did at frist my nails went to crap. In fact went to a nail saloon and had fake ones put on. It was not a great experence, but for the last 3+ years have only one nail which needs work.
Kyle - Far from the greatest scientific source so please don't put too much faith in this but "diffuse" hair loss sounds like my nephew who was not responding well to some medication; his hair later filled in again. My relatives who developed AU had hair coming out in patches, leaving smooth bald spots. Mine was not diffuse but neither was it patches. There is another type of hair loss which is called "ophiasis" (meaning snake) which starts at the nape of the neck (leaving a smooth bald area), moving around the head in a snake-like pattern, eventually leaving the very top of the head bald. One of the last areas to go is at the forehead so, again, this is not "diffuse". It's too difficult to predict but medication is known to affect hair growth so it's reasonable to conclude based upon your history that this could be a "temporary" condition due to your pharmaceutical exposure.
i had smooth bald patches for a long time but eventually even with constant treatments the patches got bigger and the rest of the hair got more diffuse looking. because of my treatments my scalp hair was the last to go. I lost eyebrows years before and had them tattooed, eyelashes and body hair followed suit. I finally shaved 1 1/2 yrs ago
Bald patches which I didn't see at first due to my long hair. It took a while, then once the hair started falling out, it came out in clumps. A few months later, the body hair fell out. Eyebrows and eyelashes were the last to go. Then the nails went (fortunately with treatment and Biotin they came back). Hope this helps Kyle.
Me, too, like Jeffrey. And with extreme weakness in my nails.
Smooth bald patches for me. The typical pattern for AA
Sorry to ask you all so many questions, I'm yet to be "officially" diagnosed so this forum is the only way for me to get a feel for whether or not I have AA/AU. So as for my question, did anyone who as one point progressed to AU experience hair loss in a completely diffuse pattern (no smooth bald patches)?
