Hello Everyone,

I know it's easier said than done, but I tried everything and nothing seemed to work. Remember all these topical things are entering your bloodstream so you may be causing more harm than good. Anything you are putting on top of your head is probably some type of steroid and trust me it's not good for you. Guess what worked for me in the end? Acceptance....after I was able to accept the new me, I was able to move on. You know as analytical as I am, I found that we all lose things we want that we were born with. We could lose limbs, sight, usage of limbs, breasts (which is known today) teeth, and etc., but we only lost our hair. At the end of the day people will lose more than hair. I wish you all much success with identifying with the new you.

Please take a week to look around to see what everyone in your circle has lost, and I can guarantee you that they lost more than hair. Trust me I know it's hard because our loss is easily identified, but once you look at yourself you will see that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Therefore, embrace the new YOU!! Get rid of the photos that show you with hair and take some photos of the new you, then envision yourself with always being bald and laugh at everyone that laughs at you because at the end of the day, "He who laughs laugh LAST!!"

I would love to hear the outcome.

i think the hardest part of a.u is feeling like your on display, ready to be judged. no matter how sincere someone is u always feel different. i hated losing my eyesbrows more than losing my hair. i dont like looking sick. it draws unwanted questions. like the usual do you have cancer. why would anyone ever ask someone, something like that!

Denise, I lost all my hair in about three weeks - AU, so everything went - almost four years ago. I have thoughts that it might come back someday but |I'm not holding my breath. I've been advised by dermatologists that if it's not back in 3 years, it probably won't come back at all. That being said, I have very recently been to a nutritionist (totally unrelated to AU) and she is putting me on a wheat-free plus diet plus all kinds of other modifications. She thinks my hair will grow back - I've heard this from people before & as I said, I'll believe it when I see it. I will keep in touch - until then, I am happily bald and fielding the stares with as much good humor as I can muster. Good days and bad....we're going to have both - we're here for you.

I agree that age doesn't matter when the hair falls out; it's always very painful. As adults (as compared to children), we can cover it well on the outside with hats and wigs (without the threat of a peer intentionally exposing our bald heads) but we all hurt the same say on the inside. For me, the hair was gone in about 6 months but my uncles lost everything within a few weeks. It took about 3 years to feel comfortable with the disease with a friend comparing it to someone dying; it takes time for us to become the new person. We all feel your pain, Gra C

Gra C: my body hair and the hair on my head was gone within less than a month once I started shedding. It went really fast. I imagine it's different with everyone.
