Hi everyone. Am new to the world of AU. Have been in the "fall zone" now since March this year. I am seeking advice on how long it takes for it all to go. It is falling quite rapidly at the moment,All head,95% eyebrows, lashes and chest. Legs at 70%.Feels like it ain't ever going to end.

I've had AU for almost 10 years now and have tried every treatment under the sun with no success, including squaric acid. I finally just came to terms with it and got on with my life. I'm happily married now and my husband loves me just the way I am.

For those of you out there newly diagnosed, try to stay positive and know that you're not alone. Life is pretty great - with or without AU.

Most of my hair grew back after squaric acid treatment. I wasn't very consistent with applying it (because it was so miserable), so I'm not sure if the regrowth was due to the treatment or just a random coincidence. After several months, I've lost most of my hair again but can't bring myself to try the squaric acid again because of the swelling and itching it brings. I may have had a harder time with it since I have eczema, so my skin is really sensitive to begin with.

is that similar to the DCPC treatment. that one i only know too well. it caused blistering, rash and serve itching. until the doctors get the right strength needed to make a reaction. it didnt work for me, but i had heard it working for others. I wish you all the best of luck in your treatments and i do wish it will work for you.

That was the only treatment I wouldn't try. I went through two months of steroids, Cellcept, XTRAC laser, Rogaine, Atralin, and a few other things. The laser burned my scalp and the Atralin made me so itchy and uncomfortable under my wig, it just wasnt worth it to me. My dermatologist said there is some research on squaric acid but he wasn't sure it would help and would definitely irritate my scalp even more. Let me know what you decide and if you think it makes any difference.

Many years ago in the Yahoo alopecia support group, treating alopecia with squaric acid was discussed as an option. As with all of these attempts to grow hair, it's never known whether the treatment is successful or not since hair can grow back at any time with or without special efforts. Systemic cortical steroids seem to have the best results but are not recommended over long periods of time due to the permanent damage to organs, and the hair can grow back only to fall out again after the medications are discontinued. I wish you luck. Susan

My son tried it. It did not work. Several treatments blistered and burned his scalp very badly. It does work for some people.
