Final lyrics:

All Of The Strands (c) Reuben Rose & Tristan Edwards 2012

I don’t know if it’s tragic, or the world is instead,
Is there someone who bothered to number the strands of the hair on your head?
Not the hope in your eyes, or the strength of the soul,
Do we measure a part, or maybe a part of the whole?

Are you simply a picture, with warmth and a smile,
The depth and the beauty of somebody’s child? You knew they were looking, but did they see more
Than all of the strands as they fell to the floor?

Chorus
So make the world dance with your laugh
Let the world sing with your smile,
Spin through the world here instead, flowers crowing your head,
Knowing you were always worthwhile,
Let us rejoice with your joy,
And be entranced by your wonder,Know we are judged by our hearts, not the sum of our parts,
And every hair it has been numbered

In a moment of beauty are you feeling alone?
Is your life a reflection of all of the things that you’ve shown? And is silence a solace, or oppressing you too?
And when you think that they’re looking, do they really see you?

Are you simply a picture, with warmth and a smile,
A fearless explorer, or slightly fragile,
Sometimes you are certain, and others unsure,
As you watch all of the strands as they fell to the floor

Chorus
So make the world dance with your laugh
Let the world sing with your smile,
Spin through the world here instead, flowers crowing your head,
Knowing you were always worthwhile,
Let us rejoice with your joy,
And be entranced by your wonder,Know we are judged by our hearts, not the sum of our parts,
And every hair it has been numbered

Instrumental

More than a picture, with warmth and a smile,
You’re the depth and the beauty of somebody’s child Who cares if they’re looking, there’s one who sees more
Than all of the strands as they fall to the floor?

Chorus

The job our AAAF team is doing is all the more worthwhile when we get comments and compliments about how we are helping people!!

Still lots more to do and we need everyone's support :)

To Me&myGirl & BTB thanks for the positive feedback, it encourages our volunteers to keep providing their time and support. We got excellent feedback from the teachers on our Teenagers brochure, so I look forward to the next challenge of compiling the outcomes form the Psychology research study into useable material for our schools and support groups. Hi, I want to thankyou for the school pack which I got off your website. When Brooke started loosing her hair (which is all gone now) we had a meeting with the principle and her teacher, I did up letters from the pack to suit Brookes situation, for the teachers and another for all the parents of her 3-4 Pod. I had some emails from parents thanking them for the information.

Now Brooke has taken it on board using her Alopecia as her show and tell times, and also something I am very proud of - this week they had diversity day (which is where children discuss differences etc) and Brooke got up in front of the whole 3-4 pod and said to all of them "I wear a wig every day". With your information she has become a very positive child. A lot different to the days when I went through it at school. :)

Melbourne Update
AAAF are at the 'Positive Schools' conference today & tomorrow at the Melbourne Convention Centre to create more Alopecia Areata Awareness within Schools!

We had a great response from the teachers - it was refreshing to see some of the teachers who have children in their classes come and ask for ideas, "how else can we provide support" was a common saying - very refreshing!

Seeking individuals between the ages of 13 to 25 with all forms of Alopecia Areata to participate in an anonymous research study.
Research is being conducted by a student researcher, Louise Borg as part of an Honours Degree in a Psychology course, under supervision of A/Prof. Gerard A. Kennedy from Victoria University. We are looking for individuals with all forms of alopecia areata (AA) between the ages of 13 to 25 to participate in an anonymous research survey.
The study is entitled:
“Coping, Quality of Life, Depression and Anxiety in Young Australians with Alopecia Areata”.

The research aims to identify factors that may assist young people with AA to cope better with the disorder and provide information to the AAAF to support people with this condition. It is hoped this research will benefit those with AA.
What will be asked of you?
There will be four brief, separate questionnaires to fill out each with a specific heading title and this should take around 30 minutes.
All you need to do is contact a member of the research team and we will mail you the questionnaire package (including information to participants form and consent form for under 18) and you can complete the questionnaires in your own time.

You can return the completed questionnaires to the researchers via regular post using an enclosed reply-paid envelope. If you would prefer us to send you the questionnaire package electronically (e.g. via email), all you need to do is supply us with your email address. You can then return the completed questionnaires via regular mail or via email.

**Note: any identifying information sent in an email to us will be deleted and we will only retain your completed questionnaire, so as to maintain anonymity of your responses.

If you are interested in participating in this research please contact:
Associate Professor Gerard A. Kennedy on (03) 9919 2481 or gerard.kennedy@vu.edu.au or Louise Borg on 0402 945 121 or louise.borg@live.vu.edu.au
We look forward to hearing from you.
