I am pleased to advise that at its meeting on 10 February 2012, the Board of Directors were happy to accept the offer of the AAAF Grant
The AAAF Grant is made annually by the Australia Alopecia Areata Foundation Inc for the development of a scientific research paper and to assist in publication of the research, provided there are applications of merit.
The paper should be on research of some aspect of Alopecia Areata. It must be published in the Australasian Journal of Dermatology. The award is open to all College members. The award will be judged by a panel comprising the Editor of the AJD, the Honorary Secretary of College and the Convener of the Scientific Research Committee.
The award will be announced to College members in the College newsletter, The Mole, in the AJD, and on the College website. It will also be listed by the AAAF on its website.
Thank you to everyone who raised funds so that we can ensure a focus is maintained with the dermatologists on actively looking into all forms of Alopecia Areata. Chel

AAAF has secured honour student Louise Borg from the University of Victoria under the guidance of Associate Professor. Gerard A. Kennedy to complete her thesis on, “How to cope living with Alopecia Areata”.
Our resolve is to have some answers at the end of this research that can assist us with providing strategies to the 12-25 age group, (focus is on youths) regardless of gender. The initial discussions are to run a qualitative survey and a quantitative study. The 5 focal headings will be: Self Esteem, Body Image, Quality of Life, Anxiety and depression.
