Hi Ally... I'm Jo. How are you, how's things for you. I'm sorry your hurting. It's an awful thing to accept. Ive just recently been diagnosed with the Scarring type too. I'm also very upset all the time. I too want the answer to the same questions you asked and more......

Hi Ally,

I'm told the best prognosis is to put this condition in remission as there is no cure. My doctor here in Atlanta has been giving me IM steroid injections in the hip along with Doryx daily and oral prednisone. Things have settled down and I'm no longer shedding and having the pain associated with this condition. I strongly urge you to seek a doctor that knows something about the disease. A great resource is the CARF website. Carf stands for Cicatricial Alopecia Research Foundation and the website it: www.carfintl.org You can email them and they will give you a doctor referral in your area.

Well I will say if you are keep it under control keep going to your doctor. Pay close attention to the way your hiding the spot because you won't know it's getting worse if you keep covering it up. Try to start some clean eating such as taking gelatin out your diet and maybe looking at the book "Eating Right for Your Blood Type".

I started losing hair about 12 years ago. I was diagnosed with scarring alopecia in 2003. For years, there was no change as I went to the dermatologist annually. I went to the specialist at Duke University and was informed nothing could be done to regrow hair in the damaged areas. To prevent further hair loss I was given a prescription and told to take the male Rogaine. Well, no difference in hair on head. Side effects from the prescription and Rogaine were not worth it.
Every product I have tried really did not work and afterwards I seemed to lose a few more strands. During the times I did nothing, no additional hair loss. I went to Bosley in hopes of getting a hair transplant and was informed I would not be a good candidate. Even if it was successful it would be minimal and at any time a relaxer, hair dying, or braids could make it fall out again. The cost would be $60,000. I declined.
I wore a short natural style for several years and would get my hair braided once during the summer for a change. The last braid job did the number. WIthin two weeks my head was sore. One night the pain was so bad I immediately took the braids out. No more hair around the edges and the top is too large to cover with the products I have been using.
People are different and there are products out there that may prevent further hair loss. Hope all works out for you.
