I thought I'd post this comment I made in another thread.
I was recently assigned a different Acupuncturist since the other left the practice and WOW!! 2 weeks after this new guy's treatment, the inflammation started to go away!! I went to my monthly Dr's visit and he told me it was good timing because we need to take a break after 6 months of shots and that my scalp looks good, though I lost more hair last month. But the premise of FFA is the hair will stop falling out if the follicles are still alive and the inflammation is eliminated. (my follicles were supposedly reported as not being dead after the biopsy in Jan.)
Important to note that not ALL Acupuncture is the same and certainly, not all practitioners are. (the new Acupuncturist) Dr J explained to me to the theory of the issue causing FFA. Acupuncture works on the assertion of personal energy flow. Since we are made up of energy it does make sense and most importantly for skeptics, the American Journal of dermatology this year reported Acupuncture has been proven to improve Alopecia Areata.
Dr. J is going to be in China for a month but his stand-in Acupuncturist knows how to further treat me. I hope it will be ok, but look forward to seeing Dr J again in August!! I forgot to ask him if he will discuss Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia with Chinese acupuncture masters.

Mel, I will try to explain to you as best I can somewhat of how I understood Dr J's explanation of what is going on and how they are now treating me. So, from what I understood, he said, each person is born with a certain amount of and type of energy and he said that I am not producing a certain type of energy flow causing "stagnation" in areas of my body. I think....it was something like, the energy gets stuck in my upper portion (head) and is only flowing in the lower parts. I also get a lot of stagnation in the middle of my body.
They WERE putting needles in my head and hairline but that only worked temporarily. it wasn't until Dr J stepped in and did a lot of intense acupuncture n my hands, arms and feet (among some of the areas) that things started to change.
Also, Dr J is a Professor at one of the only 3 Universities in the country to offer Acupuncture studies from an accredited College, however, there are acupuncture schools everywhere that offer discounted treatment by students who are supervised by the teachers. This is the equivalent to be treated by an medical intern in a Hospital.
It all depends on where you live. UNLESS, your insurance pays for it or you have the money to spend.
Anyway, the ONLy thing I can tel you is Dr J's students told me he subscribes to a "Korean" technique of acupuncture which is a bit more intense than the Chinese version (I've always had Chinese acupuncture throughout my life). Months ago, when I was still being treated by the other supervisor I went to one session with Dr J, because the students working on me suggested it, Dr J had them put needles in my hands, 20!!! I could only withstand 10 in one hand and 5 in the other it was SO painful! Now, I only get ONE in each hand, and it's helping.
Hope that helps you Mel, or anyone else.
Maybe you can find a School near you too MJ? :)
