My dermatologist and I recently discussed switching treatment from my course of erythromycin and hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil).  She says inflammation is controlled, but I still see lots of hair loss- and thinking taking a new course in treatment would be good.  Actos is the latest drug they have found that has helped control hair loss from LPP?  I'm curious if anyone is currently using this treatment?  Thanks!

I am near the end of this attack. It is falling out so slowly I cannot tell the difference one month to the next. I tried Actos as a suggestion of my derm. Since I am near the end it really did not have an effect for me. But I did gain more than a pound a week and stopped it when I reached a weight gain of 15 lbs. Pharmacist said it could blow me up. The drug that really worked for me was Avodart 0.5 daily. It has no side effects for women. It stopped the disease in its tracks two years ago. The follicles that were red inflamed at that time have taken two years to fall out. No new areas have been noted. I was also experiencing excessive shedding all over the head two years ago and this drug stopped that within a week. My derm says I can stay on it forever if I want. I did my own research on this condition at the local medical university and some studies noted that Avodart had a 50-60% chance of arresting the disease with minimal side effects. I jumped on it.

I too was on paquenil and then switched to Actos. It seemed to work the same for me as Paquenil,no huge difference accept that it made me gain 10 pounds. My dermatologist won't prescribe Adovart until I'm done having kids because of the risk of severe birth defects. I'm pregnant now with my second and last, so I'm hoping to try Adovart next.
