I am going to have a go at this. You have to fast any two days out of seven. On fast days you can have a light breakfast (500 calories).

I think I would faint, Mari. I don't know if I could do it because the Doxy makes me sick to my stomach if I don't take it with food. I read a lot and spoken with many people who have autoimmune skin issues. Many find that if they eliminate Gluten they have less inflammation. My friends were over last night and they took away Gluten and had relief from arthritis and exczema (sp). It makes sense to me - because I did not notice all of this when I was on a low carb diet. After I came off the diet and starting putting carbs back into my life, that is when I noticed the issues. Let me know how you do, though. I'd dance naked in Times Square if I thought it would help.

Will let you know. It doesn't seem too difficult to last the day after a good breakfast. Will be months before I can tell if it has any effect on the hair, though. I am still waiting to be prescribed meds - may have to give up the fasting if the two don't work together. I have started using Minoxodil, thanks to (I think) Chris's advice.

Thanks for that information Pam re the PPAR.It's interesting what you said about diet too. When I originally noticed my hair was recedding it was in january and we had been away sking for xmas. I did what I normally do when I go on holiday I tried to lose a few pounds!! So I was being very carefull just before xmas . I wander if anybody else was losing weight which might have triggered something?
I also watched the horizon program re fasting, I haven't tried it yet but it looks interesting! Are you going to try it?

Trying the fasting - doesn't seem too difficult if I've had a reasonable breakfast. Who knows if it will have any effect on the hair, though. Went to hairdresser on Thursday - everyone very kind, but they don't do hairpieces etc. They are going to find out info for me before my next appointment.

I have been reading a lot about an anti-inflammatory diet. I have been really bothered by the burning and itching. Over the weekend I had friends over for dinner who happened to have been on a gluten-free diet. They told me about some amazing changes they had in a very short time. Their daughter's exzema cleared up in a few days, and their arthritis and migraines also went away. I have read similar accounts, but quite frankly thought it was a bunch of hooey. Anyway, I went gluten free yesterday, and I swear my head doesn't hurt me today, and yesterday was miserable! Could it be a coincidence? Anybody else go gluten free? On another website they talk a lot about a paleo diet, but it just sounds so unhealthy and extreme. Has anyone had a doctor who spoke to them about anti-inflammatory diets or going gluten free?
