The last few days I have been zooming round the internet looking at hair extensions and the more I am learning, the more I am thinking that they might work for me right now- so has anyone gotten extensions? How did/do you like them?

I have been very interested in this, as well. Hopefully someone has experience with them. Thanks for asking!

Hi! I got my all in one hair extension from Fortune Wigs. I must say it is a dream. I've gone swimming in the Mexico ocean with it, have been in windy situations and have danced the night away in it. It has stayed on and feels so comfortable when I wear it. I absolutely love it and wear it every day. Heck, you can even sleep in it. The most natural looking extension I have yet to find. LOVE IT!

Hi Minter

I would also be interested in hearing how others have found hair extensions. I have been looking at the services provided by Lucinda Ellery Consultants - ? Interlacing.

xox

I believe that extensions are quite different from the intralace that Lucinda Ellery offers... but I may be wrong. I recently had 24 extensions put in my hair - 12 on each side of my head. They do nothing to mask the bald spots above my ears and at my temples, however they do add a bit of "bulk" around those areas - thus being able to mask them a bit more, to a degree. But when the wind blows - they are still quite evident... but the way I see it - not many people are staring at my ears when the wind is blowing. Or my temples. So blow away. :-) I have had the extensions in (they are the loop kind - not the glue in kind) for going on three weeks now... only 2 have loosened and fallen out... But my stylist said to keep them - as they will reuse it. So... in a drawer they went for my next visit. They do tug on my already fine hair... but not horribly. I am sure they aren't "great" for my overall hair health - but I decided to try it.

I am booked in to have the interlace in February. I am excited but also a little anxious.they were very helpful when I visited before Christmas.

Please let us know how that goes, and I'd love to see a photo of how it looks.
Where are you going?

Lo, yes- I agree, don't think they are greatest for hair, but the way I am looking at it now, is this- No matter what I do or medicines I take, or apply or whatever, this FFA is going to keep going until it burns out. It could be next month and or years from now, but either way I will end up with "helper hair" , so might as well start thinking about it now while I still have enough of my own that I can blend the new with the old without too much of a shock to the eye!

There are so many different types of extensions, how do you like the "loop type" vs glue? You said you can seem them at your temples, are they very noticeable?

I was looking at the extensions that Lucinda Ellery does, I am interested in the extensions as the intralace is soooo expensive!  Along with a 3 hour one way journey for me :-/

Claire Julia, I am excited for you to get the intralace!  February seems so far away now!

I think the loop ones are far better than the glue-in ones (I have tried both).  And I am SO with you on preparing ourselves for any outcome - whether that is "needing" supplemental hair - or this thing stopping before we lose too much... I think that has helped me - preparing while I still have enough hair - in the event I need something.  I can still get away with my own hair - but having some tape in pieces and having some extensions has helped... I wish there was a place near me that did the intralace - just to go talk to someone about it.  My understanding is they only do it in NY and London... :-(

Yes, if the FFA stopped right now, this very minute, I could just barely get away with my own hair- but it has definitely thinned at the crown too, well in general it just looks thinner along with my missing hairline!

Now for more questions if you don't mind :-D

What did you not like about the glued extensions?

Are extensions easy to care for and style?

What is it like having taped pieces, does it stay "stuck" if it is really hot or you are working out and get very sweaty?

I am with you in wishing there was a place at a reasonable distance to me to go and talk to also, I am 3 hours from Lucinda Ellery in NY, but I don't really want to make that trip every 6-8 weeks, or at all.

Hey, Minter! I don't mind answering your questions one bit!  Ask away.

I didn't like the glue extensions b/c of the fact that it was glue - on my hair... and it seems they fell out easier than the "loop" ones I have in now.  As far as caring and styling - I do the same things I do w/out extensions - I wash daily - and blow dry with a round brush.  That is mainly why I had the two fall out (in the past three weeks since I got them put in).  My round brush "grabbed" them a bit too hard - and they came out.  Probably not the best thing for my hair - but I really do try to be careful when blow drying...

So the taped in pieces... they are nice... I have lost the most hair above my ears and at temples... so I literally cut a "strip" that is about 3/4 inch wide and 1.5 inches long... and tape it along that temple/above ear area... It stays for about 3 weeks in the fall/winter - about 10 days in the summer b/c of the sweat/heat.  I do work out inside in the winter - and when I sweat a lot - that reduces the longevity... but when it gets loose - I just remove... clean off any excess tape - and re-apply that same piece... which usually will last about 2 months or so... I do wash/blow dry as normal with them in - again - being careful with my round brush not to "yank" at the taped in pieces.  I have a bob hair cut - so I just bring my real hair down around the taped in pieces and it seems to work.

Lo, what kind of tape do you buy, and where do you buy it. I have never used tape that would allow me to wear it more than a few days. I never have tried to wash my hair with it in either. Thanks. (You can private message me with your answer if you wish.)
