Hello everyone.
I'm a 30 year old male who has a history of subacute lupus symptoms (last 7 years have provided reactions to the sun mostly, rashes, itchiness etc) my ANA is consistently positive and a few years ago I started to notice thinning of the eyebrows and beard. This progressed to my hairline at the front and sides and after a biopsy, I was diagnosed with Lichen planopilaris. I was then told the hair loss was FFA. I now grow practically no beard and am losing hair above my ears and forehead quite rapidly.
I've been on Avodart for 9 months and have had little to no success but my derm has just suggested I look at Xtrac Laser treatment twice a week for 3 months. My research suggests these lasers are used mostly for psoriasis but I wondered if anyone has had success with FFA for this treatment?
It will involve quite a costly outlay as it is only partially covered by insurance.
Thanks in advance!

Sorry to hear you were diagnosed with FFA. I was just diagnosed this year and the specialist I am seeing has not recommended laser treatments. I take meds (plaquenil and finasteride) and use topicals (Minoxidil). I've read of others on this board who have tried laser treatment. If you try it, let us know how it works.
My dermatologist recommended that I buy a Laser comb. She's had several patients get a lot of regrowth. I bought the Hairmax Lux 9 on sale for $325. Ive used it 3 times a week for 3 months and I've experienced little regrowth. Everyone's different in results they get. Yesterday she started steroid injections in my scalp. She injected a lot of different areas unlike the previous derm I saw. I can,t take Plaquenil due to retina toxicity and I've lost 2 cm since stopping it. I'm sorry about your diagnosis and hope you find a treatment plan that works.
