Hi all, I started using Rogaine a little over a month ago. At first I was using the 2.5% liquid however I was having major dandruff with that so I switched to the 5% foam and the dandruff is better but my hair loss has tripled and I'm really worried I made a mistake starting it. My scalp has been so tender and I see a few hairs sprouting mainly in the front but I don't know what I should do. Has this happened to anyone else and does the massive shedding stop eventually ? I know there is a "dread shed" period but I don't know when this will stop. I just really feel like I made a mistake starting it and I accelerated my hair loss ten fold . Can anyone give me any advice ?
Thanks

I use Regaine on my eyebrows, frontal hairline, temples and about 4 inches back from the frontal hairline. I have noticed that the areas which are not scarred have thickened up a bit. It makes it easier to cover the hair loss I think.  And it is brilliant on eyebrows (although they are starting to go now)  I didn't find it a major shed, maybe just a few extra hairs that were going to fall out in due course anyway. Good luck with your decision

I use it on my entire scalp and eyebrows.  My doctor says that my eyebrows haven't been affected by the ffa yet, but they've always been a little sparse, so the Rogaine has helped make them a little thicker.

I have noticed that when I stopped using the Rogaine on my crown and right temple? I had serious hair shedding on the crown only.  The right temple had not progressed at all.  I read the instructions and it said that it shouldn't be used on "patchy" bald areas.

after reading a member's post about Iodoral, I decided to give it a try.  It made sense.  I used to live near the Pacific ocean, and our daily diet was usually fish, shrimp, crab or lobster.

After moving to NM? the cultural diet is beans, rice and tortillas. Ever since that move (7 years ago), I've had hair and skin problems.

I started taking the iodoral (iodine/iodide) and the right temple started coming in slowly.  I still have a small bald patch there, otherwise the whole temple is covered with patchy fuzz.  I couldn't even obtain that with the Rogaine.

As soon as I DC'd the rogaine, yeah, what started growing at the crown just fell out.  Now, I have a thick fuzz there.

I'm not saying that this supplement is really helping?  why?  because I've had my hair grow back in those same places - then fall out every year. so we'll see

I started using rogaine in the very beginning of me hair loss but shed so much after 2 weeks that I threw it out. Well I am now desperate enough to try again
My questions are, can't it make the inflammation worse? Can you try it on the hairline where thereis tiny peach fuzz where your hairline has receded from? And how
Long does that awful shed last?

LittleSadEyes, my Rogaine shed started about 2 weeks after I started using it, lasted about two weeks then started to taper off to my normal ffa shed.  I have never had problems with it making the inflammation worse, but I did have an itchy, tender scalp for a couple months.  I have a tender scalp, so the irritation didn't surprise me.  I was able to regrow some of the hairs that were affected by the ffa, but they are tiny and wispy.

Hi Annie

How long have you been using rogaine? I hear that in the beginning the hairs grow back like that but as the follicles expand ofer time with the treatment they turn into terminal hairs after 6-12 months. Perhaps it's justa matter of sticking with it :)

I live in Brisbane & am very happy with my Derm who seems to understand ffa well.  Am happy to share details

I've been using Rogaine since my diagnosis in March 2013.  It hasn't stopped the ffa progression, but it has thickened up my existing hair enough that I'm still able to hide it (when the wind isn't blowing).  My hairdresser says that my hair has never been thicker.  It's true that I haven't seen a lot of regrowth where the ffa is active, but I'm pleased with my results.

I used rogaine religously for about 14 months. I promised I would give myself at least a full year to use it. I wish I hadn't. I went through a terrible shed and my hair never recovered. I kept praying it would grow back since it had worked for many others. I did not start to even think about FFA until a few months ago when I realized how much my hairline receded and seems to continue every day. I also have diffuse hairloss.

It very happens that due to improper treatment, the hair begins to fall out faster and therefore it is necessary to use only proven products and only in acceptable quantities. When I realized that I had alopecia, I began to panic and began to use various drugs in large quantities, and as a result, after a month I lost all the hair on my head. I completely refused the operation, but I needed a means to hide the white spots from the bald spot on my head and then Keratin hair thickeners helped me a lot. It’s just a great tool and I’m lucky that I learned about it. Now only I know that I'm bald ...
