Hi everyone. So after not being able to take Doxycycline because it made me sick to my stomach, my doctor has put me on Plaquenil. I have to see an eye doctor first however. There can be irreversible damage done to your retina from this medication. That's scares me! But I am going to give it a try. I am also using a liquid compound of finastride and minoxidil on my scalp at night. Can anyone share their experience with Plaquenil please. Good or bad! Thank you!

Hi Kathy! Thank you very much for your encouraging reply. I started Plaquenil on Monday and also started using Monat hair treatment system. I'm glad to hear a positive response to Plaquenil.
Hi Kathy

It is good to read that your symptoms are subsiding. Very positive. I have been reading up about Plaquenil - it looks like it is the same as the medication that I have been given in the UK - UK Hydroxychloroquine Sulfate 200mg tablets twice per day. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroxychloroquine

It sounds like your Drs are very much on the ball when it comes to the concerns regarding eye issues.

I am still very worried about possible eye problems.

Airman, how long have you been taking the medicine? Has it stopped or eased the inflammation and hair loss?
Hi Kathy

I replied yesterday but my post hasn't appeared.

I took the meds for 8 weeks until the end of January. I didn't notice any easing of my symptoms. I have another prescription to continue the treatment but I am reluctant to do so at the moment because of possible damage to my eye sight. I am learning to live with the FFA but loss of my eye sight is something I couldn't deal with.

I have the Clobetisol (?spelling)solution and use that if the itching is severe. I also take turmeric in the form of the golden paste.

I read on here about Milk Thistle helping to boost immunity so I will look further into this.

Hi,

I've been on plaquenil for 2 -3 years now and no side effects. I regularly see the optometrist to make sure no damage is being done to my eyes.

However, it doesn't seem to be doing anything about the hair loss that continues relentlessly. (I'm also on finasteride and have recently been on doxycycline for something else as well.)
