UK: GP letter as medical proof for passport photo & airport security with headband?

Hi all,

have any of you in the UK, had an official letter from your GP, to proof that you are wearing a headband for medical reasons for passport-photo application and for security at the airport?

My GP surgery just had me removed to tears as they made it so complicated for me to obtain a (in my opinion very simple!) letter, which states that I wear a headband daily, for medical reasons...

When I was flying back home from Austria, I was asked to remove the headband at security and had to tell them in front of ALL the other passengers in line, that I wear it because I am bald underneath and that I was for no nothing in the world willed to remove it in public!
I felt so humiliated and stressed, I burst into tears in front of my kids. :(

Its rhe first time I have to take an official photo with the headband, and I am now worried, that the passport office wont allow the "covering" (which is like a yoga band, so not the whole head, really just the 2-3 inches of bald former hairline), without medical proof...!

horrible how this already stressful to manage and "hide" illness , sneaks its nastiness into my every day life... Everything that used to be easy - like camping, swimming, rainy or windy days, opening the door to someone without having spend time covering up... I find it very frustrating and upsetting - and I am usually a very positiv person!!

I am very thankful for this forum , even if I read more than I contribute. It feels good notntonfeel so alone with this "monster" FFA!!

Love and strength to you all!!

That is just so awful to have to go through.

It is so unnecessary to have to remove your hair band. Muslim ladies won't be asked to remove their head covering and their scarves cover up so much more. This is discrimination and should not be allowed to go unchallenged.

Have you contacted the airline/airport to get an apology?

Also, when you feel stronger, speak to your GP Practice Manager - they also need to improve their practise!

My heart goes out to you, having to suffer this humiliation.

That has been my constant fear when coming through airports, the embarrassment of having to remove my faithful headband and then explain it to friends and family who don't actually know anything. I'm so sorry this happened to you.
I didn't think of getting a letter from the doctor, I will do that for the next time I travel.

Just how stupid it sounds. For real, just like someone said above, the muslims don't have to remove their head coverings, as it is part of religion and culture, while we have to remove fkin headbands? Ain't that stupid?! Yes it is. I totally agree with the fact that this is discrimination already. So, we live in the world, were white, normal, let's say average people are being discriminated, that ain't normal at all. I guess i will order a fake passport from https://id-hurry.com/shop/, so i will muslim and don't have to remove my head covering any more.
