Just got my first prescription for my newly diagnosed FFA-- Fluocinonide. I expected instructions with it and I'm trying to remember what the doc told me. Do I just apply a thin layer of it on the skin and into the hairline, along the outer edge of the frontal hairline and at temples? (I could call the office tomorrow AM.)

I am hoping the FFA won't progress much further--doc thought it had run its course. Is it OK to continue dyeing my hair, or is it recommended that I discontinue doing it?

HI Gail,

I was recently prescribed it too and wasn't provided any instructions other than to use it a few times a week if I want.  I've just been applying it the same way I apply Rogaine.

I seem to have more going on than just FFA because I'm losing my hair on top as well as from the front.  Coloring seemed to make my hair fall out faster, especially during the coloring process itself so I've stopped coloring and just hate walking around with the gray growing out...

good luck to you!

Thanks for the response! I'm wondering the same too. My hair has also gotten thinner on top--that's what I noticed first; it's front top, not exactly the "crown" so I'm not sure if that's part of "frontal." But also arm hair is gone (didn't notice when that went missing) and underarm is mostly gone too. Has any of this been discussed on the site, do you know? (I don't know how long you've been on it; I just got on when I posted the query.)

I found the site when I was first diagnosed with FFA from my dermatologist but I avoided it a lot because it makes me sadder sometimes so I really can't answer about anyone else's experiences.  Like you, I've lost arm hair and didn't really notice when it happened.. Same for hair everywhere else!  I don't think I noticed it because shaving is a part of my everyday routine. I had an unrelated issue come up and stopped shaving for a few days and was surprised to find that it didn't make a difference!    The only good thing that has come out of this so far!

Hey! I use Flucinonide a few times a week. Just be REALLY careful to not get it on your facial skin as it can thin your skin. I had to stop using it for a little bit because my skin was thinning too much. I use a headband and push it to my forehead and apply the solution behind it, mostly all in the hair.

Hope it helps!

Thanks for the reply and tips!
