Just curious as to those of you who wear "helper hair" or are contemplating it- at one point in this FFA hair loss did you decide to go for the wigs/hair pieces/etc.,,? Some days I look at my hair and think, I'm just being vain and silly, why I am putting myself through the hassle and expense to get extra hair, it doesn't look so bad, if you just met me now, you wouldn't even know I suffer from hair loss, you would just think I have fine, thin hair and a very large forehead!
Other days, I see the shiny reflection bouncing off my skull and the almost 2 inches gone from my hairline (along with more definite thinning at least and inch into the hairline that I just noticed this morning, great!!) & if I could, I would get a wig, hair piece, anything for any amount of money right then and there. So do you wait until your hair loss is very much noticeable & visible, or do it when it is not so very noticeable to the "general public" but is to yourself?

Airam-FFA, yes- if it wasn't so expensive I would have the whole Lucinda Ellery system done as of yesterday! But the long term 6-8 weeks + replacement costs for the rest of my life, yikes, work out to be A LOT of money every month.
Mima4ever, you are lucky you are able to look good in hats, I wish I was a hat person, they never have looked good on me, same with scarves/headbands- thought actually was wearing a baseball cap the other day and a rare photo (I avoid cameras like the plague nowadays) was taken of me and I was horrified to see how bad the sides of my hair (or lack of) in front of my ears looked- just a round face like charlie brown. I thought I was doing ok with hiding the lack of hair, but now I am realizing I am not. I had also talked to Lucinda Ellery's about doing "side pieces" only when I was there, I know they have to shave the little remaining hair and then tape the pieces on- they are also dyed to match the existing After that photo I am starting to consider doing that, it is much less expensive, and easier to maintain for the time being anyway.
I'm happy to hear about the wig you will be getting. Our thoughts will be with you as you take this big step.
Read the most recent CARF Newsletter. There is a great article in there about doing this very thing.
Thank you for sharing and posting your photo Lo!
That's pretty interesting that you cut your own pieces from a hairpiece to fit, I don't know if I could cut a hair piece, but then the more I think of it, the more it makes sense as you know what you need best and what works the best, so that is a another way to go. And you are right, none of the options are ideal, but I guess we have to make the best of what we have to work with-
