Hi everyone! I wanted to give you all an update on the kids' treatment with injections & Rogaine. It has been six months now (yes ~ half a year!), and the kids are still getting the injections to the scalp every four weeks & we still use Rogaine. They have each experienced regrowth, but not complete regrowth in each of their oldest spots. They each have four spots total in different areas. The AA is still concealed without effort. The kids and I still think the shots are worth it, as they keep the inflamation down and slow down the AA progression (so far). We are still hopefull for remission. The kids have always used an inexpensive shampoo - but it does contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. I was researching this ingredient and learned, that if the hair is not properly rinsed after shampooing (and there is build up), that Sodium Lauryl Sulfate corrodes the hair folice and impairs the ability to grow hair. I can sure imagine each one of my kids, in a hurry after shampooing and not properly rinsing (at ages 10 & 11)! So, from now on, they will shampoo alternating bottles of tea tree oil shampoo & sea kelp shampoo (using one bottle daily until empty, and then the other). Also, I still apply Rogaine morning & night (unless there is sleepover, etc.) I'll check in again in another few months with an update. I hope to hear how some of your kid's treatments are doing as well. God bless you all & your kids :o)

Hi Lynn, Glad to see your children are having regrowth. What is sea kelp shampoo? How is there regrowth going a month later?
My daughter is having regrowth since the summer. She is treated with squaric acid. After about 5 months she started growing. I am hoping it continues..
Hi there Cindy! Congratulations to you and your daughter regarding the regrowth. I did buy sea kelp shampoo, as well as tea tree oil shampoo, however, the kids hated the way it smelt and pretty much refused to use it. I didn't think it smelt that bad! There it sits on the shelf. We are back to the regular old cheap shampoo, and I hope to God that it is not contributing to the kids' AA. You can google JASON hair products on the internet, and find the tea tree shampoo, as well as the sea kelp shampoo, and view the ingredients. Purchasing it on the internet, was far cheaper than purchasing it at the local health food store. Sea Kelp has a high concentration of iodine. In a separate post, I've been communicating with another parent Kayren (spelling?), and she seems to be having success using white iodine to treat her daughter's AA. It's slowing the shedding process and she is noticing white hairs growing in! You should check out that post too. After stumbling upon a few of your posts over the past months, I recall that you and your daughter have been through a heck of a lot with Alpoecia. I'm soooooo sorry that we all have to go through this!! Your daughter is beautful and has an awsome taste in fashion :o) Take care of that cute girl, as well as making time to have peace for yourself.
