Hello everyone,
There's an art exhibit this Saturday, July 24th 6-9 pm featuring works that represent bald women. If you're in the area check it out.
If you're a female with alopecia or have a daughter with alopecia you don't want to miss this exhibit!

Hey everyone!
My name is Steven and I'm 31. I started losing my hair last year around this time and it never stopped. Facial hair, scalp, even eyebrows are gone. It took me a long time to stop trying to deny that I had it and hoping the hair would come back. Ive been on an emotional rollercoaster for the past year, so I figured I would connect. We aren't alone. I hope that I can help in this group.
Looking forward to meeting allof you.
Steven
Waving hello to everyone! Welcome to hchib and your daughter! I saw via email that you had posted here. Am hoping you are able to find resources in your area. Also, to everyone who took the time to reply to my earlier comment, I owe you all a huge THANK YOU for your support. Just 15 days after my previous post, I was indeed laid off and one day later, I interviewed for a full-time job. Decided to go 'au natural' with no wig or scarf ... and I was very blessed in landing the job. Am still struggling with the change, as it's an entirely new environment for me, and with the added stress, have lost more hair, but I'm actually happier now than I was while working in retail! Haven't thought about wearing headscarves for awhile now and seem to be less conscious these days. Hope all are doing well and would love to see some more discussions here.
Hi Mary,
I went through similar experience in last few years. I am 61 and lost my job about 2 years ago. I was also going through losing hair on right side of my head (still going through that).
Hang in there, you will make it through. It's a very good idea to update your resume. Job market is different these days. Interviewers are looking for key words etc. in resumes. I just googled how to update resume and began from there.
Also, if needed try to update your computer skills. Send out as many resumes as you can and maybe do a Linked In Profile. Remember, you can do this and you will succeed. It is a tough situation but don't give up. I like Wendy's comment also. A wig would be good idea, at least in the beginning. Once you land a position, you can decide how you can handle it.
Best wishes
You may want to invest in a wig for the interviewing process ahead. It's unfair, but many employers will judge women with thin hair. Unfortunately, alopecia is not a protected class. I know that some women also shave what's left of their hair and can really rock the bald look. Scarves can be beautiful too, but an employer might think you are in the middle of Cancer treatment. Of course, in the end, we should just do what's comfortable for us, but these are just my thoughts.
Haven't been here in ages, but wish I would have visited more. Am in a very tough storm of pending unemployment. Employer has filed bankruptcy back in July 2015 and my coworkers and I are laid off on Thanksgiving Day. While I am riding out the waves to be able to collect partial unemployment, I have gone on a few interviews. I'm in my late 40s, with life long battles of extreme thin, fine, short hair with scab dandruff. I just don't know what I am going to do.
Waiving hello from Passaic County, NJ! Have dealt with extreme thin fine hair since birth; am in late 40's. Currently, not wearing any coverings, but am considering headscarves for first time. Looking forward to gaining and giving support here.
