I wish people could see the inside of someone rather than the outside. I believe it is what is on the inside that counts, not what you see on the outside.

Girl you did a great job telling the story. I liked your comment don't be shy. I'm sure you got more questions later. After 4 years my community is used to bald untill winter comes and I wig it. To those that don't or can't ask I wonder how they would handle tomorrow if their Mom , sister or best friend was living that poem. Good make-up and earrings help to give your look back but support is the best comfort. Keep talking and smile.

I will never forget going to chemotherapy with my mom a couple of years ago. We had the same appointment every week for 6 weeks and was there 8 hours each visit. I got very friendly with everyone there and we had many talks, not just about cancer but anything and everything. I will never forget one day, one of the women there was so upset because she started losing her hair due to the treatments. She was telling me how scared she was, that she didn't know what to do, she couldn't handle hairloss. I said to her, but you seem to be handling your cancer so well, surely you can handle hairloss as well. I told her there are some great wigs out there and no one will ever know. Well, she didn't know that under my beautiful head of hair - my wig - was practically none. She talked on and on how she was going to look ugly and what others would think. When I tried to keep consoling her she said, dear - you have gorgeous hair, you have no idea how difficult this is. To me, I was so worried for my mom and her cancer - hair loss never even entered into our conversations. I was struck that she seemed to have more anxiety over the hairloss than over the cancer. I told her that I did know what it felt like and we had a long conversation about my alopecia and the fact that I was wearing a wig and looking "normal" and she was actually relieved to think that she too could look "normal" while undergoing something traumatic. That day I remember feeling a bit sad because I never had a difficult time really handling my hairloss but she made me think about really how much attention and importance we really do put on hair.
