Congratulations, Christa! For more and more women, being bald IS in! The only way we can make it trendy, hot, and non-remarkable the way it is for men these days is for us to get OUT there in public. It's up to us.

I have 365 Bald Out days a year, too. For those of you who need to pick a date to try it for the first time, Saturday, July 17, 2010 is this year's National Bald Out Day. Watch the National Bald Out Group here on Alopecia World, order your official 2010 NBO T-shirt, and start thinking about plans to celebrate where you live!

And, remember that Thea of Bald Girls Do Lunch has created July as International Women With Alopecia Month.

It's going to be a great year!

Hi Christa,
I would like to say congrats to you on your decision. I do know from experience that as long as you show that you are happy and comfortable, your children will see that, and they will follow suit. I have a 7 y/o nephew that I bring to school every morning and although I know that he doesn't even realize that I'm bald anymore, I don't want him to have to "explain" anthing to his classmates, so I just wear a baseball cap or a bandana. They know that Auntie Dot is bald, and that's okay with them. Kids are very accepting and like Thea said, be comfortable in your own skin, however that is, and all will be okay. Big hugs to you and if you ever need to talk, send me a message.

Love and Hugs,
Dotty

Hi everyone,
I decided to have about 365 Bald Out days this year. For the moment, that seems not to be a problem. I give a big smile to people who stare a bit too much, some others (friends) begin to tell me their confidences, others just not show any reaction. But it's a bit difficult for my teenie daughters to accept, so I put on some headcover, when I pick them up at school...any ideas?
Anyway life is interesting, a lot more interesting as under my wig...and all your wonderful photos are helping me to feel just free to be me...
Happy 2010 to all of you,

Christa

Dear Sisters,

Yesterday was the second anniversary of the day I decided to stop picking up hair off the floor every day, and obsessing about the increase in my bald spots. I shaved my head on January 30, 2008.

Thank you all for being part of this wonderful community. Life is good, and we're fine just as we are. More than fine...we're beautiful and unique.

Belated Happy 2010,
Mary

Hi everyone!!
I started shaving my head not long after I had a meeting with my dermatologist (almost 7 yrs ago!), I couldn't stand looking in the mirror and feeling depressed about all my hair that was falling out. Besides I'd always wanted to know what I'd look like with a shaved head for years. My mom was devestated but I figured I was going to make the best of it, especially since I wasn't the girly-girl type (no offense to other members who are) and my hair wasn't my biggest worry. The only thing I miss about not having my hair anymore is that I can't headbang at concerts, lol!

I shaved my head the when my hair firststarted to fall out. After the 2nd day of losing hand fulls of hair I decided to shave my head, instead of just watching it fall out. I have only had hair grow back once in three years. It wasn't much , but it fell out .

I've been shaving my head for years :D I wear nothing on it around the house but I do wear a piece to work, social events, basically outside my front door. I love the feeling of my flannel pillow cases on my scalp! Unless all my hair grew back one miraculous day, I would never not shave it.
