Ditto for me on the sweating...that's the reason I couldn't wear wigs, and even take off scarves as soon as my scalp gets warm. Instant relief!

Hey Beth! Even after I shaved my head I had problems with an itchy scalp that led to recurring yeast infections on my head. I tried Mary's suggestion of a cap, but it didn't help. I think the issue for me was profuse sweating. Lol, now that I go bald, I don't sweat nearly as much...probably all that extra unobstructed surface space acting as a coolant. Whatever it is, I'm so grateful. I feel released from all the constraints - emotional as well as physical - and more confident of myself than I ever was with hair. I hope the cap helps.

Hi Beth...when I was wearing a wig and still had a little hair, it was definitely better after I shaved. And, you should also look for a wig liner cap - they sell them at wig shops. They're sort of like the fabric that shoe footlets are made of, but shaped like a little cap. It helped a lot with the itching.

Hey Ladies! I recently got my first wig and cut the hair that I still had short. Well, I am having problems with an ITCHY scalp! I think it's because I still have hair and am contemplating shaving my head.... not sure what to do yet... any advice would be great!

Dian, Pam and Linda said it so well. Once I embraced myself as a woman without hair, it got so much easier. Have you seen my YouTube video entitled "Living a Bald Life"?

Dian, I'm with Linda - life IS too short to wait around to be happy. There's a new you coming. Embrace her, respect her, cherish her, admire her and watch her come out of the shell of who you were with hair and shine (pun intended)!

Dian, I know what you mean about the mourning!! I decided I didn't want to be depressed everyday (my loss started at 2),I couldn't stand feeling the hair falling out on my arms or seeing it in my dinner plate. It was the worse tht it hd been in 20 yrs so I got up the nerve to shave what was left ,itsbeen so much of a releif that I feel like I should have done it sooner!!! I did buy a wig and have plenty of scarves and hats now and the love and support of my family and friends. But everyone in the neighborhood thought I had cancer, but I always explian and just smile. Even as a child when you coudln't see it I felt everyone was looking at me,I've learned to just hold my head up and smile. It did take a long time but I realized life is too short to wait around to be happy!!! Do what makes you smile!! Blessings Linda

Thanks, Dian. We've all been where you are now, and we understand the emotions you're experiencing. I did feel like I was mourning the loss of the "old me", but in time I've accepted who I am now. Take care.

Hi Ladies. i commend u guys for going bald. I haven't gotten there yet but I am definitely considering it. I'm new @ this. Just diagnosed about 2 months ago. Wasn't prepared for this. Hav been dealing w/shedding & excessive breakage for about 3yrs. Never thought it was permanent or that it woud get so bad that I would hav 2 c a dermatologist. I feel like i'm in mourning. I want my hair back.

Thanks Linda and Mary. Keep me in your prayers please. If all goes as planned, I hope to have the book ready to bring with me to the 2110 NAAF Conference in June.
