Sisterhood of Women who Shaved their Heads

This group is for women who have taken the bull by the horns and decided to shave their heads. It is also for those that aspire to someday shave their head. Hopefully we can provide support, guidance and compassion to one another.

Forgetting about it has been a huge part of it for me. I've found that if I just go about my life and act like there's nothing at all unusual about me, other people seem to react the same way. Conversely, early on when I was extremely self-conscious about how my wig looked, or about being bald, that was reflected in my face and posture - and people seemed to pick up on it. Sure, I'm almost always aware if people stare or look twice, but it just rolls off. Confidence is everything, and it gets easier with time.

It may be just me but the more I am out there it seems the less people even look, or It might be that I have stopped looking for peoples reaction which I feel is healthy, I have become very comfortable with the look and forget about it alot

That's right, Carol. It's all about educating and raising awareness. Every person who sees one of us bald in public and hears about AA, knows that the next bald woman they see might NOT have cancer. And, as I've said in connection with the NBO, people will only stop doing double takes at bald women when there are more of us out there.

Mary I got the same comments regarding cancer they were doing a charity walk on board for breast cancer,so It was assumed I was part of that,,I explained to some women, and they were intrigued about the alopecia thing. so I guess we educate in our being bald out there ehhhh
