Sisterhood of Women who Shaved their Heads

This group is for women who have taken the bull by the horns and decided to shave their heads. It is also for those that aspire to someday shave their head. Hopefully we can provide support, guidance and compassion to one another.

Welcome Jenn, and congrats on your new found freedom!! It does get a little chilly at times, but hoodies and little sleep caps work wonders!! I keep one cap under my pillow and one in my purse!

Congratulations, Jenn! Welcome to the Sisterhood of the cool, comfortable and sexy. It's been a year and a half since I shaved the last of my hair, and I can tell you that it just gets easier. I'm so used to this look now, and I actually enjoy the uniqueness it gives me when I'm out in public.

Well I have been officially inaugerated into the sisterhood. Hair is gone. Quite a struggle to get to this point. But what is done is done. Plus my head is kind of cute. Curiosity of what the head looks like is no longer! Pics of the new look are on my page. Thanks for all your bravery, it helped me get through the SHAVE. Sinead O'Conner eat your heart out!!

Well I feel very thankful that since I have to have alopecia, at least I have the kind that requires no maintenance whats so ever!! My razor has been retired to some fogotten shelf, along with shampoo, conditioner, curling iron etc etc etc. And I sure dont miss the visit to the salon every month. Im not sure that I would have been as accepting of it all if Id been younger when it struck, but at 50 its really not that big a deal. I always did like to be different. hehehe

Hi Pam, I use the Shick Extreme also, it gives me a close shave. I shave every Thursday and Sunday, it works okay for me although I usually have stubble by the time I go to bed on the day I shave. I love the freedom of being bald though.

I shaved my head 2 months after finding my first spot. I couldnt take the constant handfuls of hair or the hair covering my body every time I showered. I only had stubble for a couple of months after that and kept it in check with a Shick Extreme 3 razor. I get a bit of stubble every once in a while but its always gone by the next day lol It took me a couple of months to go bald around my friends but dont think twice about it now. Still havent found the courage to go bald in public yet tho, working on that!! I know it will be some time this summer.

Thea, I love the fashion itinerary. If only we had some pictures—I want a look at that cotton beret.
Smiling,

This has been a great discussion. The special announcement of an awareness month is just fantastic! Devoting a month to awareness and advocacy for women with alopecia (WWA) will hopefully allow sisters who still choose to cover, feel included. I know we are advancing the options for women. I read Thea mention to a sister earlier that women with all levels of hair loss attend BGDL events. I pray that this catches on and those of us who feel isolated from personal contact with other Alopecians will see more support groups form.
