Sisterhood of Women who Shaved their Heads

This group is for women who have taken the bull by the horns and decided to shave their heads. It is also for those that aspire to someday shave their head. Hopefully we can provide support, guidance and compassion to one another.

Thea tells me she had the date slightly off in her post about Park City...she's actually going to be at her condo there June 19-26. See her email for other details.

I'm unable to go at that time due to commitments here in San Diego. If the dates worked out for some of you...I'll be sad to miss it, but happy that you got together.

If things don't work out for people in June, The next time I'm really clear is in mid to late-October - I'd love to have you come to San Diego. I can offer space at my house for only about 4 to 5 women, but there are hotels nearby where rooms could be shared. I live about 25 minutes from the downtown San Diego airport, and an 8-minute drive from the ocean, and there's plenty of fun stuff to do in San Diego. We'd have to rent a car or cars depending on how many women come...I can carry 3 plus me in my car.

Anyway, it's a wild idea, but maybe somehow we can put it together.

Hi Guys, Sorry for being a bit late. I have been a bit swamped lately. Lots going on, what date are you guys thinking of again?

Thanks for the great suggestion, Thea! All those who are interested, lets' check our calendars.

No, Christie, it was actually Christy Murphy whose response I saw...but the more the merrier.

That said, I'm not sure how many women I could accomodate in terms of floor air mattress space and bathroom sharing...we might have to share the cost of one hotel room. There are several really close to my house.

I think there are a couple of AW members in San Diego who we might be able to get involved in housing and transportation. We might also have to share the cost of a rental car. I can carry 3-4 people.

I should also mention that I have a husband...a very understanding and supportive husband whose pics you can see on my page. I would, of course, have to ask him if I can turn our house in to a bald gals' hotel for a weekend!

We're all having fun thinking about this...but if people want to start looking into flight costs, etc.....we can look at the calendar.

Gotta go out now...later. I love this group, too!

Oh...this would be great!! Mary, if you were speaking about me...I'm actually in Ontario, Canada. I'm about an hour from Toronto. I think it might be time for a vacation though...wink wink!!
I've been thinking heavily of different ways to raise awareness...especially in Canada...we don't have really anything here.
I love this group!!

Thanks Alexandra, you ROCK too!!!
Mary, this is great, sounds like "Sisterhood Weekend at Marys" lol, I know the cost of airfare is down right now and when I think about all the money I spent on wigs and hair pieces (sob-sob) I think I can sacrifice (yikes) for this! OMG, does this mean I can't buy two pair of shoes this week...(woe is me) lol!

Okay, so I know it's logistically unlikely to work out, but I see the following sisters who I think have indicated interest in getting together:

Galena - Georgia
Sandy - Maryland
Mary - San Diego
Linda - Philadelphia
Carol - San Diego
Thea - NY (I'm assuming you might be interested, Thea)
Christy - Michigan

Yikes! We're all over the map! Have I left anyone out, or gotten the wrong location?

Any ideas how we might make it happen? I'd be up for sharing rooms, as Linda suggested. Heck, if you want to come to San Diego (I know, a long trip from the East coast) I have a guest bedroom and can accomodate a number of gals on aerobeds on the floor in other rooms.

LOL, ladies, you all make me feel so beautiful and I really don't give a sh*& what people think, I love being BALD! I wear it boldly and bravely even on the days when I'm not feeling bold nor brave, inside of me, there's a cheerleader shouting, "go Linda, it's your birthday" and each day is a rebirth of who I am with something new to add to my memoirs. On my really bad days, I come here and listen to you all and like I said, you all make me feel beautiful!!!!!

I HAVE to share a scene from a TV episode I saw last night - the dialog is, to me, SO on point with our discussions here. This is from the Showtime series "Weeds", which I'm just now watching on DVD.

The characters are a 40-ish woman who'd just learned she has breast cancer, and a young boy who recently lost his dad and is being teased mercilessly at school:

Woman: "Everyone thinks I've lost my mind.

Boy: Everyone thinks I'm weird.

Woman: Well, I can see how you might give that impression.

Boy: I really don't care what they think.

Woman: Good for you! Let your freak flag fly!

Boy: Really?

Woman: Really. I've recently stopped giving a s#*t what anyone thinks, and I gotta tell ya - I feel great!

Boy: But you have cancer.

Woman: And you have a dead father. Both of us make people really uncomfortable. There's no way around it. So, either we can feel all self-conscious and pretend that everything's normal, or we can just be our strange selves.

Boy: Thanks, Mrs.___ for telling me the truth.

Woman: You're welcome. It's a bitch, though, ain't it?"

Ladies - doesn't this just say it all? We have chosen not to pretend we have hair by wearing a wig. People are often uncomfortable seeing us. But, when we stop giving a s%#t what people think...we feel great!

I just had to share this.
