That is the problem I am having, Vicsta. I purchased my lace wig in December & was so excited about it. Now I am just about through with it. It took me hours to clean the unit on Saturday night and all day Sunday to reapply it. I wish I had the money to have a stylist to do the maintenance every two weeks. One day I am going to free myself from these wigs.

I think the biggest reason for me to go permanently shaved/bald would be because of the hassle of wearing wigs. It is liberating to just not have to bother. I never really overdid anything to my bio hair so having to tend to wigs and keep shopping for the damn things is annoying!!

I like your idea of keeping a journal, Mary. I am going to start jotting down everything go without a wig/scarf. Thanks! I am so ready to get to the point where I am in a comfort mode. I tried for the 2nd time to apply & bond my lace wig and I ended up with a messed up application. I am glad I purchased wavy because the hair is covering up where I messed...lol I am growing quite tired of wearing hair pieces constantly. It is alot of work.

Thanks for the hugs Vicsta! Right back at you :-)

Hi Mary - am just gonna check your page out.

Nicole - ((hugs)) you made me emotional just reading your last message about your fiance.

Thanks for the welcomes!

Nicole, I know what you mean about building up courage. Let me tell you that my experience was that every single time I "did it", it got easier. For awhile, I kept track in my journal of the firsts: "first time at the health club bald", "first time at Macy's", "first time at the grocery store". Then it was so normal for me that I stopped thinking about it. Every time was a big step. I actually had another first yesterday - a party at a friend's house. There were friends there who had seen me bald, and strangers. I went in my Turkish scarf, and when I got warm, off it came. NOT A BIG DEAl for anyone there.

You WILL get there...and when you do, you will feel more liberated and free (not to mention comfortable and cool) than you can imagine! Good luck and hang in there.

Welcome Mary!! I'm new too and this group is great! I'm learning so much.

Nicole: I plan to visit my artist before committing as well. I want to see the clients in the waiting room and more pics. Hopefully she does not charge an exorbitant consultation fee, $700 for the job is bad enough.

Hey Mary - I am still trying to build up the courage to be around my family with no scarf or wig on. So far since December, I have been able to expose my baldness freely around my fiance. I would constantly keep a scarf on around him and he would hate it because he told me that all I am doing is hiding myself from him. Which was true. We've know each other well over 10 years. so he knows what I had looked like before Alopecia entered my world. To be honest, I am still a little insecure with my Alopecia. Day by Day, I can feel my strength and courage growing strong...especially when I am on Alopecia World. Hopefully one day soon, I will be able to break my mold & be freely bald! :-)

All of my tattoos healed very well with the help of A&D oitment. Since my last post I have been searching around for an artist that has experience in doing the tattoo eyebrows. I want to see someone up close with them done.

Hi everyone! I was just about to start a group for women who go out in public proudly bald, but this one seems to already have like-minded souls! I guess I belong here, though I don't shave anymore. I shaved my patches of hair off a year ago, and it was the BEST decision! Now I'm AU, have permanent makeup brows and liner, and only wear a scarf on my head when I'm chilly. I can't stand wigs and may never wear one again.

Please check out my profile for the longer description of my hair loss journey, and to see pics of me right before I shaved my head and right after. I also have a couple of videos here and on YouTube. You can find them under "Alternatives to Wearing a Wig" and "Living a Bald Life" on YouTube.

I look forward to sharing thoughts with you.

Best wishes,
Mary
