Hi Everyone!

I have had Alopecia Areata for 11 years now and I shave my head usually every two weeks. I love shaving during the summer it has been quite a interested, and transformative process. I love that there is a group to discuss such issues and keep rocking it sisters!

I wanted to spread the word about my study coming up:

I will be facilitating this art research workshop at the 2012 NAAF conference. I am so excited for this session! This workshop will be a few questionnaires and include a fun art activity. It will be a great way to meet others, get a little creative, and give back for further research to support the emotional needs of our community.

No professional art skills required!

If you are at the conference on Thursday and are a young adult please sign up! I think it will be a great introduction to meet people and get the ball rolling for a fantastic weekend! All the best and see you at the conference!

If interested please message me!

Jaclyn, congrats!! I felt the same way when I shaved last August. It felt good to take control of something that had had so much control over me. It also makes wearing a wig, if you're so inclined, much easier.

Good for you, Jaclyn! Doesn't it feel great! I felt so much more in control once I got rid of my dwindling hair patches!

To all members of this wonderful group - if you haven't joined the International Alopecia Day Group, please do, and invite your AW Friends to join. I'm starting to get organized and post about International Alopecia Day 2012 - Saturday, August 4. I hope we have lots of cities and countries participating and sending me photos to include in the YouTube video this year. Please help! Mary

Hi everyone! I shaved my head about 2.5 weeks ago, and I *love it*. Of course, I'd rather just have my "old" hair, but being bald is so much less traumatic than dealing with the giant clumps of hair coming out every day! Losing my hair was devastating. Shaving my head was liberating!

Hi everybody! I am going to take the plunge (I think/nervous) to go out into the world bald. I'm so scared and excited! I've been working myself up for the last couple of days, but I'm still holding back.

Hello all, I shaved my head on 03/24/12 and I feel so much better. My family says I even look happier. I'm learning not to allow Alopecia and the lack of hair define me.

You could glue on fake pearls in a nice pattern- see my photo with the red "jewels". ( ;-)

Thanks Mary, your always there to help/comfort/advise which is greatly appreciated. I'm with you on a wig being to phoney at this point, not the mention that fact that Fred might wonder who the heck I was and who he was marrying LOL
I was wondering about a dress that accentuates, cowl neckline, jewellery etc. I thought a veil might just look really silly but then I haven't tried any one yet. You would think the dress would be the first thing to cross off my list but I think I'm procrastinating! I too saw the beautiful bald bride on here but I forget who what was now, I just remember she looked beautiful. Maybe a hoodie! I'm sure it will all work out, I'm keeping it very small just so I can focus on the main issue, not my baldness.

Congratulations, Susan! I've been married since before I became bald,so I have to put myself in your place to know how to respond.

Since I go everywhere bald now, wearing a wig would seem too false to me. I don't have hair anymore, and I wouldn't want to be memorialized with temporary hair in my wedding photos. Also, I would want to be COMFORTABLE.

But, I wear my embroidered scarves when I'm cool enough and take them off. IF I were wearing a traditional wedding gown, I might try to find a light veil/headpiece that looked and felt comfortable on my bald head - not to hide my head, but to accentuate it. Then, I'd remove the veil/headpiece during the reception and dancing and be a bald beauty.

If I was not wearing a wedding gown, or even if I was, I would probably just go for the bald look and wear a dress that accentuates it...nice neckline, earrings, etc.

Didn't someone on AW post photos of themself as a proudly bald bride?

The fact that Fred wants you to be bald is strong weight on going that way. I think you'll be beautiful!

I'm getting married on December 3rd, although I'm bald all the time I'm not sure how I'm going to pull off being the bald bride! Fred says "don't you dare cover up your head". I find it upsetting that I don't know how to present myself on my special day.
