Hey I just joined this site, I'm 18 I grew up in North Dallas, but I go to college in NYC. I am taking spring semester off right now so I am home for 4 months. If any one in my area is looking for support or help I will be happy to help anyone out. I am excellent with hair and makeup! xoxo Francie

Hi everyone!
I am 33 years old and have Androgenic Alopecia. I started noticing the thinning at approximately 22 yrs old. But, I had recently graduated undergrad and dismissed the excessive shed - chalked it up to stress. Fast-forward 6 years, and there was no denying that I had Alopecia and by that time I had a noticeably thin hair line and receding temples. From 28 to 33, my hair seemed to thin at a rapid pace. ( I felt like I was using more toppix than shampoo... to me that was a sign to do "something")

I just moved from Dallas to Austin. I thought "what a perfect time to start looking into cosmetic solutions. I decided to make the big step and start wearing wig toppers on a daily basis. I must admit, I was pretty uptight the first couple of weeks..but I have gotten used to wearing my topper. Although, I am not sure if I would have gotten through the first week without the support from online Alopecia communities. I absolutely love the online support groups. I received so many encouraging messages about the transition to toppers from online support groups and it really made a huge difference in my outlook of life/hair etc.

Now that I am somewhat comfortable with my topper. I was wondering if there were any Texas "in-person" Alopecia support groups (preferably in Austin). I just think it would be so nice to have a group to discuss "dilemmas" and share "insider tips" to making wigs look more realistic.

I look forward to participating more in this online Texas support group.

Welcome to Alopecia World. My daughter was 3 when she lost her hair. It grew back, fell out again, then grew back. She continually lost small spots, but now that she is 13, she is loosing the majority of it.
