After 4+ years of running this group, I can say for sure that you'll feel better after a meetup! :)

Come to our monthly meetups, or, start by joining this group and be in the loop of upcoming meetups! Sometimes I include alopecia news / remedy / stories too.

Hi Everyone!

Here are a couple of cool Facebook pages that some of you may be interested in, if you have not already found them:

Women Behaving Baldly is a project between two alopecian women, one from NY and one from NC. They may still be looking for women to interview, if anyone is interested.

This page is new, as in this week! The woman who coordinates the International Alopecia Day event/page started it, based on a photo posted by Women Behaving Baldly. If anyone in the our group is interested in visiting some mannequins here in Vancouver, I'm in!

Hi Everyone. Given some of the discussions at meet ups, I thought this article would be of interest. This website is a great general resource. And Jodi is a growing voice in the online alopecia community.

Thanks for sharing your positive experiences with yoga, and how they help you grow and feel more comfortable btflbaldgrrl. Hoping I can make it this Saturday.

Hi Everyone! I wanted to follow up on Tanya's email regarding her recent yoga experience, particularly as the alopecia yoga class is this Saturday night.

First off, congrats Tanya on what sounds like a brave and fun experience! Always best to test our own boundaries when it feels right, and by our own definitions. : )

We have all heard about the holistic benefits of yoga. Likely a lot of us do yoga, given how prevalent it is here in Vancouver.

My hope in setting up this class is that it is a way to reach out to people who have not joined some element of the local or on-line alopecia community, who may be feeling isolated and looking for support and a sense of inclusiveness.

Having AA for almost 30 years, the last few years of yoga at my local studio have still posed challenges for me. I wear a bandana to class, but the knot at the back is uncomfortable during some of the poses. The bandana also feels horrid in a more physical class, where there is a lot of sweating. I cannot imagine it would be possible to do such a class without something on your head, but I have seen men with shaved heads or male pattern baldness who don't wear anything. I suppose it is really about what feels normal or comfortable for each person.

I first took off my bandana in a yin class. Now I leave the house for yin with nothing on my head. In a flow class, I will take my bandana off at the end of class for shavasana (corpse pose).

I am still most comfortable with a hat or bandana on, but my yoga experience - combined with some outdoor pool experiences - recently lead me to "go bald" to one of my flamenco classes. That was both liberating and challenging. As most of us experience, there is our own sense of boundaries and discomfort, but we also feel the same from others. My dance community was great, some not blinking an eye and others wanting a good look at my tattoo.

So I hope Saturday's class reaches more people with alopecia in the lower mainland. And I hope to see our existing community there as well! I have not met some of our new AW members, and would be delighted to hold a five minute pigeon pose on the mat next to you! Lol.

Saturday. Highgate Yyoga. 7:45pm. Register in advance. And come early to fill out the waiver if you have never been to a Yyoga before.

Hi Everyone! The only way I seem able to share the poster for the alopecia yoga class is to start a discussion. Please see above, in that regard. And excuse the typos. It arrived this way today and the clock is ticking on marketing this event, so I decided to share before it had its final alterations. Hope you will join me on 12 January!

I am particularly sad I missed out on this chicken soup! ; )

If I say the class is permanent, pending turnout, will you all show up in droves? Lol. It is a community event, which is one of the approaches sanctioned by Yyoga. It is also what allowed us to take the by donation approach. Wigs for Kids told us we made their day! : ) I think just pulling this off will be an accomplishment, and I really hope that it catches the eye of people who have not connected with our group or NAAF, as a means of connecting with community.

I have likely posted about this before, but a friend with AA who lives in London, England teaches a class just for people with AA. http://www.toasted.biz/clubalopex/ We have talked about having him teach a class if he is ever in town, and this definitely opens a door in that regard. Who knows where this will go. Do we have any yoga instructors amongst us? : )

We had a fantastic meetup as usual! Thanks JLo for hosting!!! It was great to see familiar and new faces! White elephant gifting was hilarious, chicken soup was definitely yum and improved from last time, and oh we made a head template for JLo! Sorry to miss some of you who wanted to come out but were tied up! Hope to see many of you in January!

@btflbaldgrrl Thanks for the alopecia yoga initiative! Keep us posted. Also, will this be an on-going class? Is it pending on the turnout of the January class?

I won't be able to make the yoga session, Jana. I will be at the Vipassana Meditation Center in Merritt from Jan 2-13. Have a great time!
