Vancouver Alopecia Areata Support Group

Hello Vancouverites! Connecting is one of the best ways to feel happier and become more informed! Come as you are, whether you are shy or outgoing. This is a genuine and fun group where all of us - new to alopecia or experienced, hair-wearer or au natural, seeking treatment or not - all come together and be supportive, informative, and positive for one another. After 4+ years of running this group, I can say for sure that you'll feel better after a meetup! :)

Come to our monthly meetups, or, start by joining this group and be in the loop of upcoming meetups! Sometimes I include alopecia news / remedy / stories too.

If your kid / teen has alopecia, please contact us and we'll put you in touch with other parents! It'll be, I believe, quite awesome for your child :)

Upcoming Meetups

This group gets together monthly at one of the members' homes - a cozy, positive, and fun environment, for those with alopecia. We are here to support one another, and every meetup has been amazingly mood-lifting.

Join us here and we'll send next meeting details to you in a group email!

You can always get a hold of us via AW messaging or at alopecia.vancouver[at]gmail.com

We are affiliated with CANAAF (Canadian Alopecia Areata Foundation).

Next meet up: We meet about once a month. Please email Tanya at the emil address above!

That is great Danielle! Welcome! Feel free to message any member or post your questions and thoughts on this discussion board. Do take note that the board is viewable by all AW members, not just this group. Hope you can also attend the meet up this coming Saturday. : )

Also, take a read through this discussion string below. It will give you lots of good information and perspective.

Cheers. And Welcome again. Jana

The books in this blog may be of interest to some. I plan on contacting Margaret Evans, as she is local. Will post here again once I have spoken with her.

Odds are good I will not be joining you on the 7th as I dance that night. If you like flamenco, come check it out!

Hello Everyone! We have been a quiet group of late. I hope you are all enjoying the official commencement of summer.

I have not been on AW much of late, but thought it might be worth noting something that perhaps some of you have encountered. There are AW members who do not have alopecia, but rather are intrigued by hair loss, for a variety of personal reasons. Please take note, and be aware of communications that in any way make you feel uncomfortable. AW has become a very large and diverse community, but at the end of the day we are each individually defining what we want from our experience on here. : )

Hi btflbaldgrrl,I belive there is a web that rates NDs but I can;t find it now, but under the MDs you can also search Dr. Jiwani:

http://www.ratemds.com/doctor-ratings/144670/Dr-Tahira-Jiwani-Vanco...
there is a mix of reviews about her but I remember reading another web were most of the reviews were not too good.

I am currently under treatment with Dr Shmitsman, homeopathy, but I think it is too early to see if the treatment is working, I will provide a feed backup later on for sure, you can also find him under MD's doctor, a friend of mine saw him for another reason and she was quite happy with the treatment.
I am glad you guys had a great time, have a great week everybody, I am off from work this week to get ready for my exam :)

Thanks btflbaldgrrl for hosting at your wonderful home today! Guacamole, chocolates, and lentil miso soup - yum! So well put together :) Great seeing everybody too!

elizabeth - yes wish you were here! Good luck on the exam!

I'm looking forward to the next one! I imagine we'll all be soaking in Dana's pool, yes Dana? hahah ;)

Good luck Elizabeth!

We had a great - small - gathering today. Appreciated being able to host. : )

Curious as to the negative reviews, as what I read in Karina's post was concerns about the cost and duplication of testing. Is there a site that rates NDs as there is for MDs?

Thank you Karina on the update on Dr. Shawani, a few months ago I was considering booking an appointment with her but I read some negative reviews that made me change my mind and I guess your experience reinforce those comments.
I wonder how was the meeting today, I hope you guys had a great time. As I mentioned before this week is crucial for me as I am getting ready to take a national exam on June 4th, so all my time is committed to study but I am really looking forward to go to next meeting and have the pleasure to meet all of you in person.
