This is a genuine and fun group where all of us - new to alopecia or experienced, hair-wearer or au natural, seeking treatment or not - all come together and be supportive, informative, and positive for one another. After 4+ years of running this group, I can say for sure that you'll feel better after a meetup! :)
Come to our monthly meetups, or, start by joining this group and be in the loop of upcoming meetups! Sometimes I include alopecia news / remedy / stories too.
If your kid / teen has alopecia, please contact us and we'll put you in touch with other parents! It'll be, I believe, quite awesome for your child :)

Hi Everyone!
No updates on yoga yet.
Planning for our next gathering has begun! I have proposed Sunday 27 May from 2-6pm at my place. There are a number of ways to indicate your interest in joining us. You can message me privately, or you can message Tanya to have your email address to Google Calendar, which we are using to schedule or gatherings.
I would like to keep the above date, given the look of my calendar at this point. Apologies to those who cannot make it, and looking forward to seeing those that can.
And if gatherings are not your thing, don't feel any pressure to join us. There are a lot of ways to connect with this group, including messaging someone individually on here and/or planning coffee or a hike in a smaller group.
Cheers all!
I love the idea of yoga also. YYoga - I've been to the Burrard one and it's so zen it's amazing. It would be cool to have their newsletter announce such a class, and discover more people with alopecia.
I have emailed the manager at Highgate Yyoga to begin a dialogue on the alopecian yoga concept.I will post what transpires. Claire MacDonald from this same studio is a fabulous yin instructor, so I am going to push at the idea she might lead it. Fingers crossed!
I love the idea of a yoga practice for people with Alopecia. I'm the only bald one (that I know of anyway) at our yoga studio, so it would be nice to have others join - yoga can be very healing for the mind, body and soul. We might discover a few more people that suffer with Alopecia who would benefit from/contribute to a local network :)
SilkHead, can you toss this in GoogleCalendar - May 27th? For anyone who has not put their email address forward for meet up coordination via GoogleCalendar, please message your address to SilkHead separately. Thanks!
Hi Everyone!
As host, I am tentatively proposing Sunday 27 May as our next meet up date. If this does not work, I will put forward some dates in June. I have two weekends in May that are committed, and May is also quickly upon us!
Beyond the meet up though . . .
I am working on a couple of ideas right now that I will eventually share with the group, but are ultimately meant for the alopecia community at large. One of them is a variation on support that speaks most loudly to me, and I am calling it "Let's Go DO Something!" In that vein, I would like to solicit interest in the idea of approaching a local yoga studio - such as Yyoga - to see if they would offer us an exclusive class. I am jumping off of a conversation with an alopecian friend in England, who is also a yoga instructor, and has run with this idea: http://robercik.posterous.com/clubalopex-beginning-may-3rd-in-kensi... Let me know if you are interested, and I will pursue coordination. Not sure hot yoga would be the thing - as that requires a bandana or head band (a la John McEnroe ; ) - but hatha or yin would be really lovely (I "go bald" to yin and it is really nice). Cheers all! Jana
Thanks for keeping us all in the loop Tanya! I don't think I"ll be able to make the road trip to the States, but I definitely plan on coming to the next meetup in May. I'm out of town until the 10th, but anytime after works.
Hey Elizabeth welcome!
I would like to apologize to the group. I haven't had alot of time to be online, I have dedicated most of my spare time right now to a women's retreat coming up next weekend.
How is everyone doing with the calendar? Is someone familiar with google calendar and can help those who aren't? Does someone have the time to take that on at this point?
Elizabeth: Welcome. There are so many great people to talk to in this group. Although it's tough in the beginning, having people to talk to about it really...helps. We've been kicking around some dates to meet again. Keep your eye on the group, and you'll know as soon as we all do. Silkhead is trying to put together a google calendar that we can post on. Feel free to input times/days that work best for you.
Hello gals in Vancouver, I just joined the group and I am so happy I found the group, dealing with alopecia has been really hard for me and I don't feel like share my pain with other people that might not understand the situation. I am really loking forward to meet some of you and share our experience and support each other.
I would like to know how I find about the next meetings?? is there a calendar??? how does it work??
Have great day everybody :)
Elizabeth
