Vancouver Alopecia Areata Support Group

Hello Vancouverites! Connecting is one of the best ways to feel happier and become more informed! Come as you are, whether you are shy or outgoing. This is a genuine and fun group where all of us - new to alopecia or experienced, hair-wearer or au natural, seeking treatment or not - all come together and be supportive, informative, and positive for one another. After 4+ years of running this group, I can say for sure that you'll feel better after a meetup! :)

Come to our monthly meetups, or, start by joining this group and be in the loop of upcoming meetups! Sometimes I include alopecia news / remedy / stories too.

If your kid / teen has alopecia, please contact us and we'll put you in touch with other parents! It'll be, I believe, quite awesome for your child :)

Upcoming Meetups

This group gets together monthly at one of the members' homes - a cozy, positive, and fun environment, for those with alopecia. We are here to support one another, and every meetup has been amazingly mood-lifting.

Join us here and we'll send next meeting details to you in a group email!

You can always get a hold of us via AW messaging or at alopecia.vancouver[at]gmail.com

We are affiliated with CANAAF (Canadian Alopecia Areata Foundation).

Next meet up: We meet about once a month. Please email Tanya at the emil address above!

I had offered to host the next "meet up," but would also like to suggest that we consider a road trip to Seattle, for the NAAF auto-immune discussion that is being hosted there in May. I think it is the 11th . .

Hope everyone had a great Easter! I know Easter isn't just about bunnies...but how can anyone resist the cuteness of bunnies!:)

Let's get started on planning our next get-together!

Devan - I have a favor to ask! Would you be able to use Google's event scheduler to help us figure out the best meetup date for everyone?

First, when would everyone like to meet? I'd like to propose the first week of May! (Sorry to skip April...I have very good reasons - going to Toronto to pitch to the Dragons in Dragon's Den this Sunday..craazy. Wish me luck! Hope I don't become one of those crying ones! haha)

Miss you all and can't wait for our next gathering!
ps. Finally reached Jennifer Scott (the amazing jazz singer) and she'll come to our next meeting!

@btflbaldgrrl Thanks for all the links and lots of great initiatives! I hope CANAAF managed to utilize some of your help?
For t-shirts, my favorite is the "Bald is the new Black" tee! We'll get more awareness-generating happening as we grow - hang in there ;)

I think this is it AW Vancouver. Unless you are catching these feeds on FB or Twitter, I won't be posting them here anymore. Don't want to repeat what some of you might already be reading. For those who are interested in links and pages, I will post a more comprehensive list once assembled.

If members of this group are getting such feeds as above, through the various alopecia Facebook pages, then I will stop posting them here. Let me know. I can also compile a list of Facebook pages and tweeters that are alopecian in nature . . .

Here is an awesome tshirt, for those interested: http://shop.globalalopeciamission.org/gam-gear/9-gam-kids-heart-tsh... . Would make a great conversation starter when out in public!

Also, is anyone interested in joining me in an awareness activity? I am going to talk to my daughter's school librarian about how best to approach school boards to (a) promote the NAAF video for schools and (2) promote purchase of Olivia Rusk's book for libraries. It would be nice to come up with a more global strategy, so this many not be that effort-consuming, but it would be good to have someone with whom I can toss ideas around . . . And of course all comments from the group are appreciated. : )

Hey Connie, I'm going to try and email you directly through this site and see what we can work out.

JLo - perfect about Deanne's coat. I just left Deanne a note offering to sent it to her, but I'll get it over to you instead. What's the best way to get this to you before Friday morning, which is when we leave on vacation?

And for those of you that have any funny ideas about what we were up to on Sunday afternoon, George is a dog :) :)

Sorry I missed the meeting this time around - it sounds as though you girls had a great time. I'll see you at the next meeting! Hugs to all of you, Chris xx

Thanks for being a great host Connie!

If we could meet up so I could get Deeann's coat that would be great. I plan to go to Fairhaven next week so I could get it to her.

The story of "George" licking my pants has been quite a hit! :)

There is a video out there of a five year old boy singing "I'm bald and I know it." Likely some of you saw it; think it was a ACE posting on FB. I will see if I can find it and post here.

Shit Alopecians Say. Hmmm. I will bite my tongue on that one. Lol.
