Vancouver Alopecia Areata Support Group

Hello Vancouverites! Connecting is one of the best ways to feel happier and become more informed! Come as you are, whether you are shy or outgoing. This is a genuine and fun group where all of us - new to alopecia or experienced, hair-wearer or au natural, seeking treatment or not - all come together and be supportive, informative, and positive for one another. After 4+ years of running this group, I can say for sure that you'll feel better after a meetup! :)

Come to our monthly meetups, or, start by joining this group and be in the loop of upcoming meetups! Sometimes I include alopecia news / remedy / stories too.

If your kid / teen has alopecia, please contact us and we'll put you in touch with other parents! It'll be, I believe, quite awesome for your child :)

I really want people to be able to see our discussions before they decide to join us.

Anything private can be done via pm on AW or email ;)

And thanks to Tanya for the Heads Up about this being a public wall. Is there any option in that regard, on AW? If so, do we want the "comfort" of a closed wall - internal to AW - or does the group feel ok with being public?

I can do the 17th or 18th.

If we are going to meet on a weekend - and maybe not this time - but do we want to talk about the beach walk I suggested? There has been some talk of doing this as an awareness activity, with media present, but that could come later.

What I am suggesting for right now, that as an alternative activity to the potluck socials, we discuss our interest in going for a walk on the beach at low tide, or in Lynn Valley, etc. The idea is that we doing something outside together, and for those who like the idea, they are welcome to remove their wig, hat or scarf and experience the fresh air in public, with the support of others around them. I - for one - am happy to provide inspiration by showing off my fabulous tattoo! : )

Dear all, if you haven't already, please comment if March 17 or 18 work for you. and time of day. I hope it works for Connie too because she is hosting this one! :)

Also, this group's comment wall is PUBLIC! So it's better to keep emails and other personal data to private messaging. Please go ahead and delete your previous comments containing emails etc as you see fit.

Thank you all for your kind words. I love this group! If you have some spare cycles to help out in the near future, please comment to this discussion forum:

The British Alopecians Tweeters were abuzz with pride and tears, as the documentary aired today. Here is another link, My Life Without Hair: http://www.bebold.org.uk/dir/index.php?option=com_content&view=...

This documentary is being promoted heavily by tweeters (believe they call it trending? I am still relatively new ; ). I cannot get access, but still worth noting. I am also going to share it with Enzina, as it would be great for school presentations.

Sharing thoughts whilst hanging out with my daughter . . . : )

Silkhead has been exploring existing resources and connections as well, and both she and Cat joined us when we met with Enzina from NAAF. This is a connection we hope to build further.

Tanya, you have made a very significant change, in harnessing the social media - and organizational - options for alopecians in the Vancouver area. I think the future is a really exciting one for us, and those who have yet to discover our new community.

If anyone would like an invite to the CANAAF Facebook group, please let Tanya or I know. There seem to be some difficulties in cold searches of this group.
