This is a genuine and fun group where all of us - new to alopecia or experienced, hair-wearer or au natural, seeking treatment or not - all come together and be supportive, informative, and positive for one another. After 4+ years of running this group, I can say for sure that you'll feel better after a meetup! :)

Come to our monthly meetups, or, start by joining this group and be in the loop of upcoming meetups! Sometimes I include alopecia news / remedy / stories too.

If your kid / teen has alopecia, please contact us and we'll put you in touch with other parents! It'll be, I believe, quite awesome for your child :)

Any chance of a Monday night? I share custody of my six yr old, and she is with me on Tuesdays. She could tag along, if people are cool with kids. This month was interesting for her, as a kid at school teased her about me, and so for the first time she was embarrassed of me. Had to think quick on my feet, and told her she could feel that way and I understood, but it was not how I felt about myself. Perhaps more a trial for momma than daughter. ; )

I have been in contact with Georgia from Baby Let Your Hair Down, and have invited her up here to screen her movie, and perhaps join in a beach walk. It could be a great opportunity to raise awareness in the Lower Mainland, but also to build community.

Just a few thoughts on a Friday morning! Have a great weekend everyone! : )

Hi All!

I'm thinking we can have a potluck on Oct 11, Tuesday evening, (Everybody bring your Thanksgiving leftovers, lol!!)

Or, Oct 18th, the following Tuesday, if that works better for most.

Let me know!

Hi Jana!! Welcome!!

Yes I'm totally with you on being more active in the community! I offered to go to schools with Enzina too! And I love your walk out into the tide idea!

We had a great September meeting, everyone was awesome! Though the public setting made it harder to open up. I think it's very much needed for us to meet in a private space. Enzina will continue to hold the NAAF meetings, and we'll continue to have the casual meetup (this group) once every month!

xoxo

Hello! Just joined Alopecia World. I attended the Vancouver support group meetings about 15 years ago. I would like to become more active in the community again, and see us promote awareness in the Lower Mainland, as well as support those who are experiencing alopecia for the first time.

I am wondering how the September meeting went, and where things stand on merging the two groups, if I am following this comment stream correctly. I spoke with Enzina last month and put my name forward to speak with children and parents who are looking for insights. I also offered to join Enzina the next time she speaks at a school. It sounds like she could use more support in this regard.

I have an idea for a "freeing" activity that might interest some . . . This summer I took my bandana off at Spanish Banks during low tide . . . My six year old daughter and I walked out into the tide, and it was a very liberating place to be. Since then I am venturing out more without anything covering my head. But I would like to organize a group of alopecians to just go for a walk at low tide, bare our heads or not, just for the experience.

Just a few ideas from a new member . . . Cheers! Jana

Hi Deeann! Welcome! :)

We are the support group in Vancouver, Canada, so it might be a bit further than expected! If you are ever in Canada, let us know - we'd love to have you!

I'm from Washington, about 1 hour south. I'd love to hear about all you have going on. I'm hoping to find a support group that is fairly close, and a bit more "trendy" than the one we have here in Seattle.

Hey everyone! We had a great NAAF meeting on Thursday!

There were 8 of us in total. We started with a Q&A session with Dr. Shapiro. After he left we shared stories, advices. Everybody had AMAZING stories...sooo cool.

The NAAF meeting is held every 3 months at the Skin Care Centre. It definitely has its merits - keeping us in the loop with the doctor. The vibe is much more intimate when we get together in a private setting though! So I'm looking forward to that!

A potluck in mid October? :)

We can meet at my place in the West End, or Chris J's in the North Van. Or if anyone wants to be the host, just post a note!!

xoxo
