I've had my Freedom hair since February 2012. (Thank you, Kim K)It has taken me a long time to get used to it- how to wear it and how to style it. Some days I love it and some days I don't. The BEST thing EVER is that I went to LA a couple of weeks ago and went PARASAILING off the back of a speed boat- while wearing my hair. I was't worried one bit about it flying off- and I was so thankful not to be wearing a synthetic wig that could have flown right off or shown my scalp through the netting. Or a hat- that I would have been holding on to the whole time.

All that to say- my experience with my Freedom hair on that day is making me rethink our love/hate relationship.

I think I just have a hard/difficult to manage style- I have "light" texture and "light curl"- but sometimes I feel like I have heavy everything! Like, way too much hair. I am thankful the hair didn't blow off while zooming across the Pacific Ocean- but I sure wish I could post a picture of what it looked like AFTER the boat ride. I was not pretty.

So, my current product regimen is 100% Morrocan oil- including the oil, shampoo, conditioner, and curl cream. They all smell lovely. and the hair is nice and soft...but by the end of the day I feel awfully poofy. So, I tried using my old products- the brand of products I used on my growing/alive hair- before-I-shaved- my-head-hair. I LOVE THE PRODUCTS. They work well on the hair- control frizz and easy to re-style the next day with a little water and curl activator.

I really want these products to be okay for Freedom hair- but I have no idea. Does anyone know anything about the Curlisto product line? I used to order product from NaturallyCurly.com. I can read the list of ingredients- but that's not helpful for me to know how good/bad the products are for my Freedom hair.

Hi Amy, I will look into that product line and let you know what I find. For answers to questions like this it is helpful to go straight to the source and ask Freedom directly. I will share with them and let you know. Perhaps we also revisit your curl selection on your next order. If you are feeling that it is too much or too heavy, you certainly have other options. I'm glad you enjoyed your hairpiece during your trip to LA! Parasailing?!? Wow! That sounds amazing. I'll be back in touch soon! Kim

Hi Amy

I have a Freedom and like you use argan oil products which I am happy with. I don't know about the other one you mention.

When I got my Freedom in August, like you I found it to be way too much hair for me (a medium density with movement). It took two visits to my hairdresser to get it right. Have you had it personally styled for you and can they thin it out some more?

Hope you get it sorted.

Hello Amy

I think the biggest challenge with a Freedom Wig is turning it into you and bonding with it. This can be difficult when styling and experimenting with products. But you will get there.

My daughter has two Freedom wigs which sound similar to your hair choice and density. One of the things I know for sure is light curl can be really beautiful if attended to well. What we do is make sure it is always washed and conditioned (well) at least once a week. When we wash Libby's curly wigs we squeeze the curl into the wig and then leave it to 100% dry out, away from the wind etc. We don't touch her wig until it is totally dry. This leaves a very smooth beautiful curl. Once dry we do not comb the hair either. Just shake and wear. To smooth the curl down again for wear the following days in between washes we spray her hair (with water) and again don't touch it until it is absolutely dry.

Curly hair has inherent qualities that are natural to this curl preference. One is that it will get poofy and have fly aways if you comb it, are in humid weather, or in windy weather. This doesn't mean the hair is horrible, it is just what those with curly hair have to cope with. The results of learning to get the best from your curly hair (in my mind) are very worth it.

I believe if you use products which are good quality you should be ok. If Curlisto worked with your biological growing hair I would think it would work with your Freedom hair. Try it and see if you like the results.

The other thing you may like to consider is next time you order a Freedom Wig try a slightly smoother curl preference - movement or possibly light wave. Also, because curl gives you quite a lot of volume, you may like to even consider going with an extra light implant. I have done this with my daughter's latest hairpiece and I love the result. She has light curl #6(colour), 10 inches, with an extra light implant. I will try and get a photo of this wig to show you if you would like. Let me know.

Catch you again soon.

Rosy

hi Rosy- i would love to see some pics! sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. i am trying the curlisto products and they make really nice curls- but i think i'm just gonna have to go back and get another cut. i think my synthetic hair spoiled me! and curly hair is a lot of work. but you know that!!

Hi Amy Love Lulu

I'm sorry it has taken me a wee while to get these photo's organised. Trying to get my 22 year old daughter to sit down and smile at the camera can be a challenge. But I made it happen today.

This is her latest Freedom Wig. The specs are 10 inches, extra light implant, light curl, colour #6.

We washed and conditioned her wig yesterday, then left it to dry overnight. This is curl without touching or doing anything to it. The fringe has be styled to the side with a blowdryer and then a little hairspray applied. But the rest of the hair is the natural curl of this wig.

She has been wearing this wig since October 2012... I really like it and so does she. :)

Rosy

hi Rosy, thank you so much for sharing the pics! and please thank your daughter for me, too. she is beautiful- and so is her hair!! i love it.

Amy, I am following this discussion with much interest. Because I just went from straight hair (light density) to natural curl (light density) and now I am wishing I had stayed with straight as I do know how to use a curling iron. But I do not know how to do anything with naturally curly hair. BUT, I have had two appts. with my stylist, and plan on one more to take out some volume. I do not want to have THAT MUCH HAIR. it reminds me of my old synthetics. too foofy. too much hair. i want to blend in. I used to perm my vacuum pieces (sold by Peggy Knight at the time, but still made in the New Zealand factory) and loved how easy it was to style with a hair dryer/diffuser. But perms are not in fasion now. I had no idea that with NATUALLY curly hair...........everything is different. Rose Marie said it best. shampoo, condition, and air dry. don't touch. I'm still learning. Freedom pieces are the best I have ever seen. In all ways. Getting used to a new one is a love/hate relationship. but that would be the case with any new HH piece. I think whatever worked on your growth hair should work great on Freedom's hair. Will see what is said here about the Morrocan oil... curl cream. Maybe I will get brave and post a photo here one day...
