Searching for fellow Ontarians with Alopecia. I have been dealing with alopecia for the last 20 years, and I'm finally done dealing with it alone. Is there anyone out there?

Hello, recently joined this group which appears to have all types of Alopecia. I wondered if anyone has been helped with this affliction. I had been diagnosed at Sunnybrook in the fall of 2012 and…Continue

Oh and I should add that reaction to DCP is different for everything and the AU regrowth success rate isnt very high, but SOME people are lucky enough to have it work. Plus they start you off at a super low dose and work up higher and higher
Im in DCP right now. I dont react that much to it (not much itching) and once and awhile I break out in some blisters, but they actually arent that bad. Ive been on it for a year with only minimal regrowth that isnt steady so Im probably going to stop treatments next month.
I wear my wig just fine! it dries in seconds so you can throw your hair back on right after
If you are in Toronto, there is a clinic at Sunnybrook Hospital. My regular doc got me a referral.
I know one of my clients has had some success with DPCP. She uses it for her brows and they have been staying. She had suggested I try the DPCP as I have regrowth happening all over the back of my head and my client was saying the the DPCP would help with getting hair back on the sides of my head. I'm tentative to any treatment as I had a ton of needles injected into my head when my alopecia hit and that resulted in headaches and a skin rash. Maybe one day I'll try again...

Happy Fall!

Ignore that. Have your doc refer you.
Sunnybrook is the only hospital in Ontario. You have to go once a week for the treatment. The success rate is higher for those with patches as opposed to those with AU...which I have. Good luck!
Hi Lily and wisel....I followed up after my GP referred me to Dr. Lomoga and saw him pretty much right away.
Lily I wish you luck with Sunnybrook....As I said I stopped after 4 months..had the same experience as you. I have had no spontaneous regrowth...
On the bright side I am now living my life bald....I haven't had to shave anywhere in over a year;-)
Hi,
I live in Toronto and have been diagnosed with FFA since 2012. I suspect that I had it for a few years prior. I barely have any eyebrows and have list 1 to 1.5 inches of hairline all around my head. Since my hair is extremely curly, I have been pulling it forward and hiding the effects. My derm last saw me said "you really have a problem here". I do not think that he can help much except to do injections which he says will thin the skin. I am not sure if I should stop fighting it. just accept, it and move on with my life. I have no itching or any indication that my hair is falling out but after a shower, I have bald spots. I am looking for advice on hairpiece ideas to cover forehead and temples at this time.
Thanks, Jen.
Jen.
Hey michelle! I saw Dr. Lomoga today. he is refering me to Sunnybrook for the DPCP treatment. i did it four years ago for four months and i had no results. The itch on my scalp drove me nuts! I'm going to try again to see if I have any different reaction. My aplopcia is almost totalis. I just have a few hairs on my head and they are all white without pigment. I look really kind of freaky. Thanks for the name of the dermotologist I really appreciate it.
