Searching for fellow Ontarians with Alopecia. I have been dealing with alopecia for the last 20 years, and I'm finally done dealing with it alone. Is there anyone out there?

Hello, recently joined this group which appears to have all types of Alopecia. I wondered if anyone has been helped with this affliction. I had been diagnosed at Sunnybrook in the fall of 2012 and…Continue

HI all,
I'm 52 - but I FEEL young. Can I join? I'm single, losing my hair to scarring alopecia and am struggling with it - really struggling. I'm from Ottawa. I'd love to connect with more alopecians and get to a place of acceptance.
Ironically , I'm involved with the Canadian Skin Patient Alliance - have been for years for other skin stuff, and now have another skin disease - namely Frontal fibrosing alopecia.
do any of you get together? Go to the CANAAF sessions in toronto?
Do you feel like you've got access to excellent dermatologists who really know alot about your disease?
thanks, Christine

Hey Laura! Great to have you, new member?
Hey from Toronto!! :)
Hey Courtney, Raymond, and Kelli!! Sorry for the late reply.. Aloepecia world is a great website, but as you can see Im not a frequent user.
Courtney- Welcome! no, unfortunaetly Im not from niagra, Im in Ottawa, but our new friend Ray is in T.O I believe..?
Ray- this picture I took in my home, and is the first picture I took of myself without a wig. Pretty big moment in time for me (posting it on the web and all) as far as facebook goes...well Im not exactly in favor for the way facebook has obsorbed so many people, but I do believe facebook has another good community of alopecia members. Keep that in mind!
Kelli- from what it sounds like you and I have dealt with our emotions very similarly, shutting everyone out, the desire to 'fit in', living with the paranoia of everyone staring you down. Some people deal with alopecia very easily. And then unfortuneatly there is people like me whom have taken nearly 20 years to accept it. Accepting who you are and what you look like isnt something that happens over night, it takes alot of work, alot of heartache. You didnt say how long you've had alopecia, but I have a feeling its only been a few years?
You should read my blog; This is me by Jade hawkins

Hello. I'm from Toronto. Yes I'm a Leaf fan. Glad I can make this group to 10 even though there has only been one post in the past year. Hoping my addition can initiate some activity. I do not have a Facebook account so this is my social media exposure.
Jade, nice pic. Where was that taken?
