Written a few years ago, it's not completely up to date on medical findings, but these are readily available on this site.

I wrote "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" to help other people -- particularly women and girls --and it's one that I wish I had been able to find when I discovered I had alopecia years ago.

I have stumbled through all the stages of grief (feeling guilty because, after all, there are worse things than alopecia), figuring out how to look normal, bouncing from one treatment to another, buying and ruining or rejecting dozens of wigs, losing every single hair on my body, figuring out how to tell guys I was dating, living in fear of the wind and someone touching my head…all in all, going from heartbreak to acceptance to joy and confidence. I am in galleries, I can't produce enough it's seems. A good problem to have I've been told. AA is new to me ,it started a month ago and I shaved my head last night.

Hey LeslieAnn, thanks for welcome me. i'm doing preety good i actually went to Kentucky this year it was great i had a very good time there i meet people and i actually saw i was not alone because here in mexico there's only like 3 people that i know they had or have alopecia so that was a very good experience to me. i heard about your book, i think i'll but it. I do not know what energy went over me yesterday during the day and why i started to feel sad and upset .I really did not like idea to be among people if i can not bring /share happiness and joy to /with all.
And my duaghter, who have alopecia was with me. We have great evening , great food and much beautiful ,loving energy and support from freinds. My Daughter (Vanessa Vandalism ,i think, maybe you know her?), was very happy.
WE come home about 3 in the morning :))) and now i`m babisiting my granddaughter.She is cute, 4 years old . OH,i have very loving cat too, her name is Lilly Browne .

paintings too.,because 'somethign'was inside me ,and wanted to go out-to be 'Born". !:)

Hi, it's Cynthia. I just wanted to thank you so very much for telling me about the DVD fron NAAF. I got 2 copies, 1 for us and 1 for the school. It is AMAZING! The teacher showed it to her class and the kids were very good about it all. The dvd will be shown to all classes in the school so that all the kids will be informed. Leslie, I purchased your book recently, and before I really got a chance to dive into it, my roommate decided she wanted to read it. She read the entire thing and loved it. I now sometimes wonder if perhaps she knows more about alopecia than I do. Now that she is informed she can describe to people what I have other than, "a disorder that makes her hair fall out" she knows all about it, thanks to you. I so love the cover of your book that I purchased a print and it now hangs in our living room. For one of my classes (Intro to Visual Culture) we were assigned a progressive writing assignment in which we were supposed to pick some form of visual culture and give a complete analysis breaking down any connotations we could pick up on. I chose to do "Bald Boogie" I am in the process of writing this paper, and on the denotative assignment I received a 100%. I've come to appreciate yours and every other artists work in artwork now that I have a different way of viewing it. =)

LeslieAnn What a surprise to find after all these years so many other women who have been through and know exactly how I feel, it really makes me feel welcomed and understood. This diease is something that iIhave kept to myself for a very long time and its nice to see and learn how others have coped with theirs.. Many thanks,Leslie.I have been trying to gird myself to do something about publicising this condition.I hope I'll be able to do it now.I don't think there are many Alopecians in India but at least I can start.Your book seems wonderful.I'll definitely lay my hands on it.I'm being treated with Ayurvedic medicines which have helped me considerably so I hope that I can manage.

LeslieAnn, thanks for the welcome and for the sweet comments about my little Chloe. Your precious baby is adorable also. I also love, love, love the purple shoes in your photos. I would die for those. LOL. I ordered your book after about a month of this illness and I can't tell you how much it did for my self esteem. It brought me to a new place. I really didn't think that I could ever accept this but I have came along way. I'm not saying that I don't still have rough days but I am surviving a lot better. I still pull your book out and read it at least once a week. My daughter and husband keep saying "are you reading that again"? I just want to say thanks for writing an excellent book and helping so many people to accept what cannot be changed.

Thank you for your comments. You are right, it is hard as a mother to see my beautiful daughter struggle to have hair. When she was 3 she lost every piece of hair on her body...peach fuzz and all. We started the drops when she was 3 and has since used them everytime a patch would occure. This year Maygen has started to loose many many patches all over. I see hair everywhere....on her sheets, on her floor, in her shower, on her clothes.....It is hard because she is 13. I know how cruel kids can be. I am a teacher, so I see the devistation that hurtful words leave on kids. Any advice you have, I would appreciate greatly. Thank you for your time. I am also going to order your book. My daughter is an advid reader, so we can read it together.

I reada little bit of anothers coment to you about wig flying off during an accident in a car..oh my..I have one for your next book wig flying off while on a rollercoster with a 21/2 year....then picking it up from the dirt going to the bathroom picking out the leaves and sticks and deciding well this is still a good famiily outing straighten up and get back out there. I think I was to shocked to be that embarrassed. I be came invisible in that moment...It's actually on video too..I have never watched but it's out there at a realtives home in a closet....
I guess you have heard every kind of hair story hun..

Thank you for the warm welcome. I had a doctor tell me when I was 16 and all my hair fell out and grew back that it would probably fall out again when I was 30. Well 29 hit and it came in full force. Some days I am ok. Others its hard to look at myself. I am just glad there is a place I can come and express my feeling to others who share in this. Thank you so much and I look forward to reading your book in the future as well. I see many wonderful things being said about it.

Most of all, it helped me to accept my new image. I've always thought of bald women as being beautiful. I just never thought I would be a beautiful bald woman!

I've had alopecia universalis for 45 years now and it has been a difficult and challenging journey for me. Hi Leslie-Ann - I still haven't received your book! The US distributor is waiting for stock apparently. I am doing great - amazing how much better I feel in the month or so since I got my wig! I still feel low sometimes but my confidence is back again & I keep positive. Would be much easier if I had a partner to share it all with but my family & friends are fantastic.
