thank you so much for your comment. That ment a lot to me I paid 300 bucks for this hair and I think it looks good. Tom was just mad cause he could never get women like us.
  • Ev

Hey thanks for the advice. I think i am okay with out a wig at the moment and (if ) when the time comes I think I will go to the wig shop first. I have heard alot about the vacuum wigs..they sound good!!
  • Karina Louise

    Hi there!
Thanks for your comment on my blog. So are you getting a freedom wig too? It can be a long time to wait but it will be worth it!

I am getting more used to it, it's been a week now. I did use frizz serum on it, but it still needed straightening :( oh well, it's what my own hair used to do too so you can't have everything!

I know I would be more comfortable on a plane in a bandana but I'm just not sure how to transport the wig...it makes things difficult.

Anyway, good luck with your new wig, hope your wait goes really quickly!
  • Matt

    Thank you!
  • Karina Louise

My wig is only 10" so I think 14" will be pretty long! Seeing as they got more expensive the longer you go, I didn't go for super long. I like the length of mine fine though. Hope yours is ok for you when it comes! I can't imagine having 18" hair -doesn't it get tangled?
Thnaks for your tips on packing my wig, I'm pretty much sorted now thanks to some very helpful people on the internet :)

  • Carmella

You should give it a try soon, but don't sunburn your dome (going out bald I mean) it's really fun! People are so astonished and nosey I find it very amusing.

    Hi Sarah,
I am just now getting back to the wonderful messages of thoughts and prayers for my Kristin. I had the best sleep in 10 days last night because she is home from the hospital. Thank you for thinking of us and your prayers were heard loud and clear. Hope all is well with you and yours.
    Love and Hugs,
    Dotty
  • Paula

hello! It was awesome to meet you also! I have not started plans for a fun night out yet... did you have a chance to put all the emails onto a master list? or, should I create an announcement/discussion about it on our AZ page? hmmm... lemme know- have a great weekend! pp
  • Nancy

    Hi Sarah,
If we meet on a Saturday, any time is good for me. I thought Tempe was a good location. If we meet at a coffee shop for our small meeting, there is a cute and cozy coffee shop on Baseline and Mill that might be a good spot to meet. Just a suggestion. I am pretty flexible.
  • Amy Bard

Thanks for the wonderful comments. You have a beautiful family also. I have enjoyed reading your blogs. It makes me realize there are other people like me it is hard b/c where I live I never encounter anyone with Alopecia so this website has been a God send. Hope you had a good weekend.
  • Amy Bard

Glad to hear you had a good weekend. Did you get your A/C fixed? I can't imagine it being that hot. We complain here when it is in the high 80's so it must be miserable without A/C and being 115. My kids are 8 and 4 1/2. They are a hand full-they have their dad's energy so they keep me busy. Your kids are so cute. Have you ever asked a doctor what the chances are of one of your kids having Alopecia? That is my biggest fear that my kids will have it also...I don't want them to have to go through what I have. I have not really been to a doctor for Alopecia since I was eight so I don't know what the stats are on the your childeren having it. I was just wondering if you knew. So glad that you have a support group to attend....I wish I had one here. I have a friend with Alopecia but she lives more than 2 hrs. away and we rarely see each other and I don't know anyone else in my city that has Alopecia. Well enough of my chatter. Hope you have a good week and I'll be in touch.
  • Amy Bard

What a relief to have your A/C fixed...I'm sure it's not the news you wanted to have to tear up your wall. Thanks for the info that you had about passing Alopecia to your children. I just say my prayers that my children don't have it. As far back as my family knows they don't know anyone in our family that had or has Alopecia...I have always been the lone person. It was very difficult growing up especially in the small town that I grew up in. I'm so thankful to have a loving husband that accepts me for who I am. The hardest part was when my hair fell out after our daughter. My husband had never seen me w/out hair. The whole time we dated I had my hair...it still is a major adjustment b/t us. I always fell like I let him down in some way and not the person he married. That has been the hardest part for me. It would be nice if you lived closer so we could meet in person. I would enjoy having someone that can relate to me to talk to and do things with. Have you ever been to the Alopecia conference? Do you know if they have decided where it will be next yr? I would like to go if I can get off work. Well once again I have written you a book...so sorry. Hope you have a great night and I'll be in touch.
  • RENEE

My hair is currently 20inches. In my younger years I could never find great pieces so now that I can I love my hair long and so does my husband. I have a piece on in this picture made with a monofilament base with lace edges. It is great. Very secure with just tape. I had the vaccuum, and did not really like it, hopefully you will have better luck. I just ordered a new piece made from a synthetic nylon that I could not even tell was not human hair. Have to let you know about that in about ten weeks or so when I get it.
  • claire

you look great, and your wigs are lovely too.
  • RENEE

I will gladly take some pictures. I am not very savy with this web page. Can you give me your e-mail address and I will send a few close-up pictures. The inside is a silicone type material around all the edges for the tape to be placed. Then around that is a lce wrap to give a better hair line. Not the best for pulling my hair away from my face as you can see I wear bangs and shorter pieces down the sides. I have two pieces, and I just sent one back for repair to have new hair put in it. It is human hair so it wears and breaks. I have a great guy that custom makes my pieces to suit my needs. He deals mostly with men, I am one of his few women clients, but he does really great pieces for me. I have been with him for ten years. He is so very knowledgeable it amazes me. My pieces I wear now he sells me for two for 1800.00. I jusr order two new types that will set me back 2800.0 for two. They are the new synthetic material I was talking about. The hair is so like human hair and the hair line he is building for me I will be able to pull my hair back from from face and you will not be able to tell it is a wig. I was amazed. I have to wait ten weeks for them to be made for me. If you are interested in looking into this his web site is: http://hairtechnicsltd.com I was telling him about this website and he said he will be happy to talk to any person with alopecia and help them find someone in their state that makes pieces like he makes for me. He has really been a blessing to me. When I was a child it was so hard to find natural lloking hairpieces and I have tried everything. Their are so many different materials you can use in the base depending on how sturdy you need the piece. I am hard on my pieces so I have a sturdier material in my base. I do have sensitive skin on my head, and it does not itch me most of the time.

  • Sharla

    hey Sarah,
I just stop by to give my regards and more power to you...I think you are so brave and beautiful at the same time,,,just to share some things with u, I've never take off my wigs @ home or any place....most of my family and my siblings knew but i've never ever share this with my kids and they never ask any question...i assume they knew but never say anything, they are two girls 14+ and 12years old. I wish i could find a way to let them know whats going on....if u have any suggestions i'll welcome ur thoughts.....
  • Sharla

Thank u Sarah for ur response. Never b4 my kids they are the only ones that have never seen me this way but the fact that i was so young when this happens my other families have ,,but u know what since am grown up they hardly see it cause am just always wearing my wigs. I do locked myself in the b/room and admire myself and am as beautiful as if there wasn't any alopecia. Am very outgoing and is hardly noticeable cause i try to appear as normal as possible, i try to fixed my wigs so they look very real then no one can tell if it's that...even if they think it is,, wigs are worn by everyone in this part of the country where i reside. My biggest thing is i've never discussed this with my daughters and don't know how to,, wished they would ask me something, i would definately with no hesitation tell them about it. Hope to find that courage and i think u people are an inspiration, this will help me to do what i have to.....
  • Sharla

Thank u so much for ur suggestions i'll definately find a support group...i think there's one in NYC. Well u know what am won't worry not even in the least cause i also have u and the rest as a support,, which i give many thanks. I think am blessed and so ru, take good care of ur self and ur beautiful family.

Hi There! Since it's a small world, but not that small, I am guessing that you are the same person listed as the NAAF contact for alopecia meetings in Arizona. My son just lost 90% of his hair in the last 3 weeks and while I've shown him some pictures of other kids with alopecia on here, I think it would be good for him to meet some other kids locally. Do you have a meeting set in the near future and have there been kids at previous meetings or is it mostly adults? Thanks for your time.
